The Shortlist Music Prize Project was created in 2001 to honour the
most adventurous and creative albums of the year across all genres of
music. Panel of judges (which includes Mos Def and ?uestlove) have each nominated five albums which they consider to be the most creative and artistically accomplished released in the USA between July 1, 2001 and the present.
The Definitive Jux crew racked up the nominations this year with four separate nominations. Among those nominated were Aesop Rock for “Labor Days,” El-P for “Fantastic Damage” and for “Cannoxtrumentals” (chosen by Mos Def). Rjd2 also received a nomination (from ?uestlove, not surprisingly) for “Dead Ringer.” Congratulations goes out to Def Jux and their artists, keep the goods coming.
Other hip hop related nominations went to the now defunct Anti-Pop Consortium for “Arrhythmia.” The Shortlist Music Awards will take place on Tuesday, October 29th at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles.
