According to former Disturbing Tha Peace (DTP) rapper Shawnna, she was blocked from taking part in the BET Hip Hop Awards and a cypher for the awards show by her former label. While speaking exclusively with AllHipHop.com, the Chicago lyricist revealed that she took a trip down to Atlanta last weekend to promote her new single “Gettin’ To It” and to take part in the festivities for the BET Hip Hop Awards.
As she traveled to Atlanta, Shawnna says she was approached by BET about taking part in one of the BET Hip Hop Awards cyphers. Shortly after BET contacted her about the possible cypher opening, she says her manager informed her that BET denied her access to the red carpet and the awards ceremony.
“When we get there, my manager says, ‘Shawnna I need to talk to you. Our PR person just got word from BET that you have been denied access to the red carpet and the BET Hip Hop Awards,’” Shawnna said. “At that moment, my whole world stopped. It had been a minute since I had been this excited about getting back on the scene and letting everybody know I’m ready. I was embarrassed, hurt, angry, all in one. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back…This is in no way a ploy to promote a mixtape, cause I don’t even have a mixtape right now. All I was trying to do was get down there and make a little noise with my single, network, communicate with people. They just tried to put a stop on everything. But God is good. We kept grinding. We kept doing our thing.”
According to Shawnna, BET was in a partnership with DTP “to present the festivities” for the awards show.
She later detailed her time spent at DTP and her decision to “keep it cordial” following her departure from the label. Shawnna then recalled others telling her she didn’t get the push needed while at DTP.
“I made the decision to keep it cordial,” she said. “I’m not the type of person that likes negativity…Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of things I didn’t agree with. I just chucked it up to being part of the business. But something would say, ‘Nah, this ain’t good business.’ It’s no secret I was with them for ten years, and all I had was two albums. I had a feature here and there, but it wasn’t enough. People would come up to me and say, ‘Shawnna didn’t get the push that she needed.’ I don’t have to say all these negative things about them. The proof is there.”
Shawnna also clarified her standing at DTP during her interview with AllHipHop.com. She says she hasn’t been signed to DTP for four years and hasn’t spoken to Ludacris since they started working on Battle Of The Sexes, a project that was originally intended to be a collaborative album between the two artists.
“I have not been signed to Disturbing Tha Peace for four years,” the rapper said. “I have no connection to them. I haven’t even spoken to Luda since before we even got to the split. I haven’t spoken to Luda since we were in the studio working on Battle Of The Sexes. I don’t understand why after four years, y’all still wanna take this shot at me. I have no idea what their next move could be, because I had no idea they’d make this move. I honestly thought they were on the same page as me – we’re going to let what happened between us, be between us. Let’s move forward on our own paths amicably. Obviously, I was wrong…Females in the industry cannot afford to take ‘Ls’ like that. If I win, females win. If I lose, females lose. That’s how I look at it.”

who even knew DTP was still a thing?
Well I guess they pretty much killed your career because I haven’t hear much of you, Jean Grae hasn’t made a album over a decade but still hear from her more than I hear you.
No one wants to admit it but Luda is a bitch nigga. I read between the lines of all this shit. God bless her!!! In the end those blacks who think they have it going on now will fall hard! Only a matter of time!
Luda be leavin niggas behind. He got that Jay Z swag.
I’m out here n ATL right now – last Saturday me and the homie went to a club and had just left a live ass party
the club usually be jumpin on sat but it was dead – we went in and was about to leave when my nigga was like “i think that’s 4ize” (from Disturbing tha Peace)

guess he was just on a couple tracks on some obscure dtp album and then disappeared
This is how rap goes. The vast majority of these rappers have no special talent, so they come and go based on luck. When your moment is over it’s gone for good. Sadly, Shawnna is done, all of DTP is done as well, including Ludacris.
Luda career is in tac my friend and he got a lot of business ventures going get your facts together! Shawnna is like some other female rappers who didn’t take off under their male counter parts like Oliva, RemyMa,Rah Digga and many more if you don’t make it don’t blame no one but yourself because they are in good position to make it the business is mean and ugly even when you do make trust your time want last long , So don’t waste time talking about who didn’t let me shine. If you got what it take nobody can stop you !
at that time, she was given an opportunity. no she did not get major bread to push her music.
for luda, how long you expect for him to carry dtp? he gave them money and look and opportunity to make their own moves. should he move a bunch of 35+ year old rappers in with him? besides none of you fools on this site are worth a damn.
