Shaggy Explains Why He Won’t Be On Rihanna’s Upcoming Album

Shaggy turned down a chance to be on Rihanna’s next album for a not-so-obvious reason. The dancehall artist opted not to appear on the pop superstar’s upcoming LP because he had to audition for a spot.

“They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah,” Shaggy told the Daily Star. “There’s a lot of great people involved, but for me, I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys.”

Despite not contributing to the project, Shaggy had positive things to say about Rihanna’s upcoming album.

“From what I hear it should be good,” he said regarding the highly anticipated LP.

Rihanna has reportedly worked with a number of popular Jamaican artists on her much-discussed project. The album was targeted for a December 2019 release but nothing came to close out the year. So far, no release date has been announced for the project.

While fans wait for her ninth album, RiRi has been busy focusing on her growing empire. She recently introduced Savage X Fenty’s first collaboration with fashion designer Adam Selman, which is set for Valentine’s Day capsule with additional drops through April.

    1. Not smart bro, if it’s a hit it will generate more future opportunities. A Rihanna album is guaranteed hit not that I’m a fan

      1. Its made millions you simp. He has hits since before Rihanna. Labels doing stupid shit behind the scenes.

      2. Who let all the kids in here… it is smart hes 51 years old and hes already been up in down the block. He doesnt need to sell his integrity for the chance to have another hit which he already has. It’s not always about fame and money.

      3. Bro… shaggy is an established legend in the game who doesn’t really need “future opportunities.” Hotshot alone sold 9million actual copies, not whatever counts as an album sale nowadays. He was right, let the younger artists who are tryina make a name take their shot.

    2. Im saying, its Shaggy. We ALL know what his voice and performance is. You either want him or not. Whats the audition for?

      1. why do y’all do that ignorant shit? seriously you don’t know how to search? if you really wanted to know google the shit dumb ass

    3. who cares? probably adding him to the album would have made it whack! his time been over and his music was corny anway!

    4. Even though I understand him completely.
Swallow your pride go through the bullshit and get on maybe the biggest album of the year and jumpstart your career again.

    5. This 2 hit wonder thinks he is special enough to not audition for her album lol? Bro u had 2 hits a decade and a half ago.

    6. i see all these comments sayin who is shaggy and he only had 2 hits one said he was a trash it’s all about your prefrence of music now if u like music actual music not guns and drugs then you’ll honestly like shaggy he truly is a dancehall legend if you like sean de paul or elephant man then you’ll love shaggy just saying

    7. This is the problem with you young commenters. Shaggy makes maaad money on his nostalgia tours. Son went diamond off one album not to mention money he still generates off past collabos. So he can decide what he wants to or not to do. Ri Ri aint a legend or nothin, it aint like Mick Jagger or Sting asked him to audition. I bet you he would then.

      1. Get the fuck outta here with those white punks just cause they are legends to you doesnt mean they are legends to everybody.
