Sexyy Red has pushed back against some of the flak she’s been receiving for what some critics have called an “inappropriate” performance at a high school.

The “Pound Town” rapper recently made an appearance at a small high school gymnasium in an effort to do some charity work, but many of her eager teenage fans were too excited to stay seated and could be seen on video abandoning the beaches and descending on the St. Louis native.

A man on the microphone then demands that everyone else be seated, warning the students that the event involving Sexyy Red would be canceled because of the chaos.

While the video was a viral moment in and of itself, many fans criticized Sexyy’s brief appearance at the school, saying her music is too sexual for kids and questioning her decision to throwing up gang signs and the middle finger when she entered the auditorium.

“Not sexyy red having an appearance at a high school. I just wanna know what principle approved that lol,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

“Anybody defending this is crazy,” added another critic. “All her songs vulgar as fuck and she came in throwing up blood LMAO.”

“So nobody gon ask why the first thing she do when she walk in is flip off a bunch of children?” asked one fan, while another quoted her single “Pound Town” as evidence as to why Sexyy Red should not have been there.

“Why would they allow ‘my coochie pink and bootyhole brown’ in middle school [rally]?” they wrote.

Sexyy responded to the backlash on Tuesday (July 16), clarifying that she was there for a charity even to help those same kids.

“Y’all do know I went there to give the boys money for they haircuts and girls bundles for prom week cause I remember when I needed help with my prom stuff,” she tweeted.

Sexyy Red’s raunchy Tay Keith-produced single “Pound Town” has become a viral sensation since its release in January, racking up over 15 million on-demand streams thanks to the #PoundTownChallenge.

The song even caught the attention of Nicki Minaj, who hopped on the official remix in late May — much to Red’s delight.

Sexyy Red, in turn, has quickly emerged as one of the hottest new stars in Hip Hop — but as she recently told HipHopDX, her team wasn’t always sure that this would be the case.

“I was in the studio, and I showed it to my team, and they were like, ‘this ain’t it,’” she told DX exclusively at the 2023 BET Awards in June. “I said this is the one! This the one! I’m telling you!”

She continued: “I knew. I said, ‘we doin’ this, because we like the song.’ And it’s my stuff. My fans love me for being me. Imma drop it.”
