ScHoolboy Q Says SXSW Is “Stupid” & “Corporate”

While preparing to go on stage at this year’s South By South West (SXSW), ScHoolboy Q expressed some of his dissatisfaction with the annual events held in Austin, Texas.

“It’s stupid,” ScHoolboy Q says regarding SXSW in an Associated Press article, as per Washington Post. “They changed it all up. It’s corporate. I don’t ever want to come back unless they change it to where the fans are in. I’m tired of performing and seeing my fans outside the gate…That’s not fair. It’s not about the fans no more. It’s all about money [and] who can give you the best look.”

ScHoolboy Q’s friend and collaborator, Danny Brown, also criticized SXSW recently

“The best thing for me was, I remember coming out here years, years, years ago, before it was like all the major label guys and all the guys were coming out here,” Brown said recently. “It was pretty much an up-and-coming artists—it was really more so about bands at that time. It wasn’t even that much Rap going on. In those days, it was just more about you got put up on something. More so than now when people coming here they just going to see the Kanye show or they going to see—now you don’t really get put up on nothing. It kind of lost a little something with that. My thing is, when I come out here, I try to go see all the people that I don’t know.”

    1. I’m sure they’ll manage next year just fine without your “No hope in the world of going gold even on Interscope” ass

    2. Q is right, they just catering to the rich college kids with corporate daddy’s pulling strings left and right. Spoiled Brats!

    3. Why is this whole site so and so said this about so and so, there’s no need for gossip in hip hop for real wtf. Maybe try to find out what mf doom or twin perils are saying? You can’t because they just make music. And it’s better than all this troy ave or schoolboy q nonsense. This isn’t 8th grade popularity contests

    4. It’s to the point where it’s not even about the music it’s about who’s saying what? For f sake kanye believes he’s Jesus and Rick Ross is a cop! And they’re still prevalent in hip hop for some reason. It’s like this u don’t need a Facebook because who cares what people are doing or saying? And most importantly who cares if they know what you’re doing. Do your own thing and if you’re a clown when you’re doing it people will see and disown you if you’re real they’ll recognize. If you hate a rapper hate him for his flow or bars or delivery not for what he did at some nightclub. Everything is so watered down and bubblegum bullshit that everyone is falling into this stupid shit. My first comments and my last on any hip hop site hate if u want but it’s real talk

    5. i was just talkin bout this today. i remember they did things like the dxsw showcase where a bunch of detroit artists went to texas n did showcases. and it was really underground n lowkey….these last couple years though it seems have been real lame. oh well cant be made at the promoters. but at the same time they should wisen up.

      1. Every year the attendance increases, so how should they “Wisen up” exactly??? By going back to being a festival nobody comes to and losing money?? That would be “Wising up” to you huh??

        Internet logic

    6. I agree SXSW supposed to be for up and coming and local artist not niggas who already made it

Check out 85 Cay Og Bobby Johnson Freestyle on Youtube that shit
      straight fire

    7. Man, I’m not going to lie. I live in Austin and I think it’s awesome that you have the choice to go see these big artists. I personally didn’t get to see anyone. I only wanted to see one person. DANNY BROWN. Luckily, I got to. But to be honest. When money comes into the picture, that’s all the matters. At least you still have the choice to go watch more unknown people if you’d like. Yes, it sucks that their focus is surrounded around bigger artist but at least you still have the choice to go see someone more unknown.
