ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul & Jay Rock Confirm That A Black Hippy Album Will Not Be Released

For those who may have had a little hope when it comes to a possible Black Hippy album being released, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock likely dashed those hopes during their interview with Page31.com. While being interviewed each of the three rappers was asked if a joint Black Hippy album will ever surface and all three responded with a swift no.

According to ScHoolboy Q, at this time in their careers a Black Hippy album won’t work because of the current emphasis on individual projects.

“It’s not,” said ScHoolboy Q when asked if a Black Hippy album will be released. “Like why [do] nigga’s want a Black Hippy album? It’s so corny. Why you want the hardest nigga’s to do an album? Why we can’t just do our own shit? Why ya’ll want all of us to do it? It’ll never come out right. When the hardest nigga’s always get together it never come out right. That’s how I feel. We the hardest nigga’s, but I just don’t feel it’ll come out right. At least right now.”

“It won’t. I don’t know man…I don’t think it’ll ever be a Black Hippy album,” Jay Rock added.

ScHoolboy Q did add a small glimmer of hope when he revealed that while a Black Hippy album won’t happen now, they may be able to work something out in the future.

“I think maybe later on when we a little older, right now we cool. We too stuck onto our own shit,” said Q in a video posted on HipHop-n-More.

    1. WTF are these a**holes talking about? Ain’t nobody checkin’ for them and if they were give the people what they want…Screw these guys…

    2. I think it’s just a marketing scheme. So when they actually do announce that they are dropping an album niggas gone go crazy. TDE

      1. That’s what I was thinking. It also reduces the probability of the album being too over-hyped. Kind of like with Watch the Throne; hype raises expectations and there’s more vulnerability towards critiques.

    3. they’re right. I’ve never been over-excited for a Black Hippy album like some but I think all their solo work is so good they should be focusing on that now. I can live with 1-2 BH tracks on each of the TDE releases.

    4. They’ve seen Welcome to the OUT house and now they don’t wanna make an album together. Damn. They need to realize that they can craft a song and Slaughterhouse can’t…that’s the difference. These mutha fuckas can pick beats…SH can’t. They will make an album after they get over the shock of the Slaughter Flop.

    5. all that hate on slaughterhouse crazy! that LP was dope some of the beats were ok… but all the raw shit is on the FREE MIXTAPE they put out

    6. wtf he talking about black hippy could stand up with nwa or wutang. almost sounds like he’s being sarcastic. why do niggas wanna see the hardest go in on an album? come on

    7. Seriously, why would people possibly want four dope ass rappers, WHO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS A GROUP, to put out a group album? What, so just because they’re a rap group, they’re supposed to put out a rap album? As a group? Really? Y’all got the game fucked up! Black Hippy is on that future shit, that “Rappers In A Group Don’t Rap Together” shit! Get with it people!

      1. Damn right. The game is fucked right now, people think just cause they’re a group they’re supposed to make music together? This is bigger than a movement, this is people looking in the mirror and shit, this is the best rap group ever.

    8. how the game works

heard method man talking about it in a interview

the label puts the artist on another level…then that artist owes the label x million in acts

    9. They understand how the game works. If you release a group album before everybody has at least put out a sophomore album under a major label umbrella, it’s curtains for your solo career as a part of the group. They know how important it is to stay humble and focused until then, and to help each other. That’s why i believe they are plugging Kendrick’s album so much in this video, they know that the quality of the art within his music speaks volumes about what Black Hippy represents as a whole. Otherwise you end up with interesting cases like Slaughterhouse (critical acclaim, large fan base for the group rather than solo artists) or MMG (heavyweight in Rick Ross, seasoned vet in Wale, fresh blood in Mill and Stalley) where the balance of the solo careers and the group recognition plays out in very different ways as time goes on.

    10. You can also end up with G.O.O.D Music, where they have a figurehead and exec in Kanye West so great singles and promotion but solo career’s of talented artists suffer (see Cyhi Da Prince).

    11. I think all four of these guys have more commercial viability than Slaughter House. Slaughter House came about out of necessity because as individuals (though talented) they couldnt sell records….Each of these gentlemen can actually sell records individually…they are playing it right though, with no anticipation for a group album, if they do decide to release one, I think people will really be checking for it…

    12. THAT’S THE RIGHT DECISION, THE SOLO PROJECTS FROM THESE DUMBASSES ARE ENOUGH, THEIR JOINT PROJECT WOULD CONTAIN TOO MANY SONGS THAT SUCKS. AT LEAST THEY ARE LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN SLUTHOUSE BECAUSE THEY HAVE (A LITTLE BIT) CHEMISTRY AND FLOP BOYZ HAVE NONE AT ALL.

    13. probably a couple reasons for this. If they release a group album now, then everyone is gonna put each one of them in this “Black Hippy” pocket and they’ll never escape that. Look what happened to Wu-Tang…people started to forget about everyone that wasn’t named Method Man or Ghostface. These guys ain’t stupid. They know alot of people would only check for this because of Kendrick

    14. HAHAHAHA!!!! Dope. I can’t wait for the new Black Hippy album. This just let’s me know it’s going to be some crazy ass shit and that they are really trying to shock the world. Some dumb motherfuckers up in this piece, though.. for real.
