For those who may have had a little hope when it comes to a possible Black Hippy album being released, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock likely dashed those hopes during their interview with Page31.com. While being interviewed each of the three rappers was asked if a joint Black Hippy album will ever surface and all three responded with a swift no.
According to ScHoolboy Q, at this time in their careers a Black Hippy album won’t work because of the current emphasis on individual projects.
“It’s not,” said ScHoolboy Q when asked if a Black Hippy album will be released. “Like why [do] nigga’s want a Black Hippy album? It’s so corny. Why you want the hardest nigga’s to do an album? Why we can’t just do our own shit? Why ya’ll want all of us to do it? It’ll never come out right. When the hardest nigga’s always get together it never come out right. That’s how I feel. We the hardest nigga’s, but I just don’t feel it’ll come out right. At least right now.”
“It won’t. I don’t know man…I don’t think it’ll ever be a Black Hippy album,” Jay Rock added.
ScHoolboy Q did add a small glimmer of hope when he revealed that while a Black Hippy album won’t happen now, they may be able to work something out in the future.
“I think maybe later on when we a little older, right now we cool. We too stuck onto our own shit,” said Q in a video posted on HipHop-n-More.

That’s what I was thinking. It also reduces the probability of the album being too over-hyped. Kind of like with Watch the Throne; hype raises expectations and there’s more vulnerability towards critiques.

they’re right. I’ve never been over-excited for a Black Hippy album like some but I think all their solo work is so good they should be focusing on that now. I can live with 1-2 BH tracks on each of the TDE releases.

They understand how the game works. If you release a group album before everybody has at least put out a sophomore album under a major label umbrella, it’s curtains for your solo career as a part of the group. They know how important it is to stay humble and focused until then, and to help each other. That’s why i believe they are plugging Kendrick’s album so much in this video, they know that the quality of the art within his music speaks volumes about what Black Hippy represents as a whole. Otherwise you end up with interesting cases like Slaughterhouse (critical acclaim, large fan base for the group rather than solo artists) or MMG (heavyweight in Rick Ross, seasoned vet in Wale, fresh blood in Mill and Stalley) where the balance of the solo careers and the group recognition plays out in very different ways as time goes on.
You can also end up with G.O.O.D Music, where they have a figurehead and exec in Kanye West so great singles and promotion but solo career’s of talented artists suffer (see Cyhi Da Prince).

I think all four of these guys have more commercial viability than Slaughter House. Slaughter House came about out of necessity because as individuals (though talented) they couldnt sell records….Each of these gentlemen can actually sell records individually…they are playing it right though, with no anticipation for a group album, if they do decide to release one, I think people will really be checking for it…
THAT’S THE RIGHT DECISION, THE SOLO PROJECTS FROM THESE DUMBASSES ARE ENOUGH, THEIR JOINT PROJECT WOULD CONTAIN TOO MANY SONGS THAT SUCKS. AT LEAST THEY ARE LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN SLUTHOUSE BECAUSE THEY HAVE (A LITTLE BIT) CHEMISTRY AND FLOP BOYZ HAVE NONE AT ALL.
