Scar Lip‘s career might be in its infant stages, but it hasn’t stopped her from garnering massive attention, especially from industry heavyweights like Swizz Beatz — and according to her, there are quite a few people she has to thank for her success.

Scar Lip’s star has been on the rise since the release of her now-viral track, “Glizzy Gobbler,” and later, “This is New York.” During a recent interview with VLAD TV, the Brooklyn-bred star sat down with the host to discuss her early upbringing, including the adversity she faced, the origin story behind her stage name, and more.

While her viral tune has helped shine a spotlight on her burgeoning career, Scar Lip hasn’t forgotten those who supported her early on — like Boosie Badazz, Cardi B, and Shaquille O’Neal.

“When Boosie reposted me, it felt like I had a shot,” she said. “That’s when motion started coming in. His push, [and] his co-sign, got me a lot of press…that shit helped my career a lot.”

Then when asked about Cardi B — who reposted her on her Instagram Story earlier this month and left her in tears — the rapper said it made her feel like she “made it out the hood.”

“I couldn’t believe that..that post changed my life,” she said. “I love her so much.”

Scar Lip even credited the Invasion of Privacy rapper as one of her biggest inspirations: “She started from the bottom and raised her way to the top, [and] anybody that feels a way about that…you’re just weird. Everybody starts from the bottom. How could you not be inspired?”

The rapper also revealed her connection to former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. She indicated that their unlikely friendship began through a DM on Instagram.

“He was like, ‘yo keep spitting that hard shit,'” she said. “It was like four in the morning, [and] something told me [to] check my phone. I look and see [that] Shaquille O’Neal text me. I said, ‘Is this a dream? Is this real?’ [and] I started jumping up and going crazy.”

Scar said she was so shocked that she didn’t believe the message was even from the four-time NBA champion until he sent her a personal video.

During another part of the video, she also showed love to Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg, who recently released their own remixes to her “This is New York” track.
