Saweetie has opened up about the controversy surrounding “Barbie World” after the Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice version found success on the Barbie movie soundtrack.

During a recent conversation with Power 106 Los Angeles’ Justin Credible, the Icy Girl was asked about the drama surrounding the hit single when she revealed she too has a finished version of the record and is planning on releasing it soon.

“I mean it’s no rules. It’s the wild wild West,” she began, before explaining that artists being offered the same song — only to have their cut passed up for another — is not unheard of.

Still, Sweetie revealed the game doesn’t phase her — it’s “inspiration” to have influenced the hit record. “Like, I love to inspire, that’s my purpose here, and they look bomb as fuck in the video. So it’s just like ‘Okay, bitch, I see you!’ Mine still coming out though. Stay tuned,” she added. “I’m saving it for a very special moment.

While it’s uncertain when the 30-year-old artist will drop the track — or her long-awaited debut album — she revealed the project is currently undergoing an evolution of sorts.

“[The name of the album] was Pretty Bitch Music but I realized, Pretty Bitch Music is my movement,” she explained. “It’s like a category of my brand. Like there’s Pretty Bitch Music, there’s Icy, there’s Icy University, etc. So I’m changing the name of my album.”

Last year, the rapper previewed a clip of an unreleased song sampling Aqua’s fan-favorite “Barbie Girl.” But some fans felt slighted when it was reported that Nicki Minaj and her “Princess Diana” collaborator had also sampled the single for, “Barbie World,” for the official Barbie soundtrack.

Further, last month Compton rapper Jason Martin (formerly known as Problem) took to social media where he claimed he was a writer on a track that originally belonged to Saweetie — and wanted his credit.

According to him, a song he created with Saweetie was sent over to Nicki Minaj for a collaboration that she agreed to do. But instead of Saweetie being on the track, he alleged Nicki stole the record and repurposed it for her collaboration with Ice Spice.

“Y’all gon’ give me what I deserve,” Martin said on Instagram Live. “Now, if Saweetie don’t wanna trip, that’s on her … But we crafted a record that was sent over to Nicki to hop on to submit to the Barbie soundtrack.

“She said she was gonna do it … Then all of a sudden, a new version was created. Yes, it’s a sample, you can do what you want. But n-gga, you can’t hear one thing, say you’re gonna do this, then go do your version. It ain’t happening like that.”

He added: “Anybody that’s in this business knows that that’s not how this works.”
