Mere days after Saweetie and H.E.R. brought the summertime vibes with their groovy new single “Closer,” the pair took to the skies as lavish pilots in the track’s coinciding music video which dropped on Monday (February 14).
Throughout the video, Saweetie also has a romantic rendevous both in a luxurious hotel room and on the tennis court before hitting the skies again, embodying the lighthearted and carefree lyrics she raps.
“I wanna fall in love for the weekend,” Saweetie raps on the pop-infused track. “Three boyfriends I don’t know where I’m sleeping/We be thuggin’, clubbin’, fuckin’/Order room service when we done, that’s the sequence.”
“Closer” is the newest single to drop from Saweetie’s upcoming new album Pretty Bitch Music, and comes after the project’s first single “Icy Chain” dropped on November 19, 2021. Saweetie performed the track for the first time while she was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
“Closer” also emerges after Saweetie closed out 2021 with two Grammy Award nominations, capping off a 2021 that saw her cover magazines, snag a lucrative McDonald’s deal, and expand into multiple businesses outside of music. With all of these opportunities at play, Saweetie told Complex in 2021 the required networking to maintain all of these businesses could at times be misinterpreted.
“It’s unfortunate that having a personality that’s engaging, people can often mistake it as having a level of interest beyond the conversation,” Saweetie said. “But if I was a man, you wouldn’t have took it that way. But it just goes to show how much women have to think when they’re trying to converse with someone who they’re not interested in, but they’re having to play this game.”
