Salt-N-Pepa are central to the History of Hip Hop, and their contributions to the culture have now been honored in the form of their very own action figures.
On Wednesday (May 29), Bay area design house Super7 released toys of Cheryl James, aka Salt, and her fellow spitter Sandra Denton, aka Pepa, making them the first female MCs to have a product of this kind to their name.
The group’s longtime DJ Spinderella (born Deidra Roper) has not been included in the package.
The plastic toys feature both rap veterans wearing the outfits from their breakthrough 1987 music video for “Push It.” The song ultimately sold 1.5 million copies across the globe and even earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance.
Prior to this, Super7 also cemented the legacies of other Hip Hop groups such as OutKast, Run-DMC and Beastie Boys with similar releases.
As for solo acts, the company has previously paid homage to MF DOOM, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Notorious B.I.G. and KRS-One with their own custom toys.
In similar news, The Alchemist was recently immortalized as a Breaking Bad-inspired action figure.
Earlier this week, Trap Toys put together a figurine of the veteran producer dressed as the iconic Walter White character from the show mentioned above, combining his “Alan the Chemist” nickname with Bryan Cranston’s meth-cooking alias.
Alc’s plastic version wears the teacher-turned-chef’s yellow hazmat suit along with headphones and blue gloves; the package reads: “Cooking up the purist!”
Each standard version of the figurine, dubbed “Alc Heisenberg,” will cost $190, with signed versions setting fans back $320.
In an Instagram post giving his followers a closer look at the item, he praised Trap Toys’ attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship.
“Introducing my first collab with TRAP TOYS : ALC HEISENBERG aka ‘THE ONE WHO KNOCKS’ Standard edition of x60 (£150/$190) plus x25 signed variants (£250/$320). Available at 12 NOON EST THURSDAY THE 30th from TRAPTOYS.COM,” the beatmaker wrote.
“I’ve always been a big fan of @traptoys so when they reached out to do something it was automatic. The detail and time they put into their craft is insane, & in my opinion what sets them apart from all the rest. Get one thursday!!!! Thx to the Trap Toys team.”
Stupidest idea I ever heard in my life! Who going to be dumb enough to waste their money? And seein how Spinderella always
get left out, whatever they selling I’m not buying. That’s like somebody NWA action figures, and leave out DJ Yella. It wouldn’t be the same without him and it’s a slap in the face dis if you ask me.

get left out, whatever they selling I’m not buying. That’s like somebody NWA action figures, and leave out DJ Yella. Or a Run DMC action figure without Jam Master J. It wouldn’t be the same without them. And it’s a slap in the face dis if you ask me. But it’s not like they will sell out or make millions off of it. That’s karma for you.
