Ruben Studdard, best known for his work on American Idol has a new album in the works.
The young singer spoke to MTV about the album, a new look and some guests who will be featured on the LP.
“I had an album that came out in 2004 that is almost about to go platinum, my first album went double platinum, I had a No. 1 single on Christian radio for a long time, and everywhere I went people were asking me where I was,” he claimed.
“I was like, ‘Have you not seen my video on BET or MTV?’ Like, my video was on heavy rotation on both stations, and everybody just kept asking me, ‘Where are you?’ So I thought maybe I just need to name this album something that will catch their attention.”
The album will be titled The Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear. The Return will feature production work from Ne-Yo, Scott Storch and others. Guest performances as of press time include Mocha & Gutter of his own RCS Music Group.
The singer also wanted to make a track with fellow American Idol star Fantasia. He has doubts of the track ever being finalized but says he still hopes to do it.
Look for his new album to be more ”adult-themed” as the star says he has finally gotten a chance to relax and just let it go and ”do his thing.”
