Roddy Ricch is one of the rising stars of the new generation, and he’s already positioned himself as a future leader for the genre. His peers who’ve paved the way for him are already greats in their own right, and he’s sticking up for them when the Recording Academy isn’t batting an eyelash at them.
During a visit to Kevin Durant’s The ETCs Podcast, Roddy Ricch spoke about this new generation of artists having a special bond while carving their own lanes to success. Roddy said he questioned how the Grammys would snub Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Baby when they’re two of the most popular rappers in the game today.
“I feel like it’s more for sure more a collaboration because we run into each other more,” Roddy Ricch told KD when asked what the vibe was like between all the younger rappers. “But I feel like everybody got their own lane, everybody got their thing they do, you know what I’m saying? Uzi is like, like when I was talking to the Grammy’s ‘Y’all aint nominate Uzi for [Best Rap Album],’ I was tripping on them.
“Even like Lil Baby, y’all ain’t nominate Lil Baby? Like I’m tripping, cause it’s like everybody got their own lane, and it should be spoken about, talked about more because I feel like the n-ggas now that’s doing shit like, no disrespect, we really breaking barriers.”
Roddy Ricch is most likely talking about Lil Baby’s My Turn and Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake being snubbed in the Best Rap Album category at the 2019 and 2020 Grammy Awards, respectively.
Roddy’s words come days after his second studio album, Live Life Fast, dropped on December 17. The album has received a lukewarm reception, and the sales numbers reflect that.

According to a post by Akademiks on Twitter, Roddy Ricch’s Live Life Fast is expected to sell 64,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. That number is a sharp contrast from the 101,000 united Roddy moved for his debut album Excuse Me for Being Antisocial in 2019.
