Rihanna Leaves Def Jam Recordings, Signs With Jay Z’s Roc Nation

Rihanna, who signed to Def Jam Recordings in 2005, is now signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation imprint, according to Complex

Jay Z signed Rihanna to Def Jam when he was the company’s president. Since then, he’s left to launch Roc Nation.

“Founded in 2008, Roc Nation is a full-service entertainment company, inclusive of artist, songwriter, producer and engineer management; music publishing; touring & merchandising; film & television; new business ventures; and a music label,” Roc Nation says. “It is home to a diverse roster comprised of critically acclaimed recording artists, writers and producers including Rihanna, Shakira, J. Cole, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris, NO ID, Timbaland, Santigold, DJ Mustard and more.”

Rihanna has been managed by Roc Nation and is now signed as an artist to the imprint, as well, according to Complex. The publication reports that Roc Nation has her listed as part of the roster, as noted above, and that Def Jam has her listed as a “legacy” act along with past Def Jam Recordings acts, including Slick Rick.

Jay Z and Rihanna have collaborated several times, including work on “Run This Town” and “Talk That Talk.”

    1. I thought this was a hip-hop website, rihanna is NOT hip-hop neither is jay-z who contributed to the downfall of the music and not to mention, def jam records. This fuckin site is looking more & more like TMZ and vladtv everyday with these FRIVOLOUS stories.

      1. It is hip hop news….. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean this site needs to switch up to appeal to your needs. Go’on with all that BS and get off the site.

I am curious though; how long did it take for the label shift? Her last album was in 2012. You’d think the change was imminent and she’d switch immediately

      2. This site is getting dumber by the day along with a lot of the users who comment. The worst thing that ever happened to def jam records was handing the reins over to jay-z and @ursongsucks you should be listening to motherfucking one direction, lady gaga or any of that bullshit catered by mainstream which success remarkably in making people utterly stupid. I don’t give a fuck when rihanna’s last album was released, I do not check for mainstream bullshit because I don’t wanna vomit. I haven’t done so in years plus I haven’t heard any radio station in years also, it’s gotten THAT bad and THAT insultingly stupid. Anybody who defends that garbage should consider suicide.

      3. 100% agreed with the OP. How about covering real hip-hop instead of 5 Jay-Z stories a week? Nawwww that’s craaazyyy

    2. $97/hr pavivdv by Google, I am making a good salary from home $5500-$7000/week , which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day I was blessed with these instructions and now it’s my duty to pay it forward and share it with Everyone, Here is I started,,,

    5. Wait why didn’t she sign to Drake’s label?? Oh that’s right.. he doesn’t own one. Hova wins again. “Is that yo bitch?” – Jay-Z

      1. drake does have a label, stupid nigga. ever heard of ovo? riri should’ve signed with drake instead of old ass gay-z.

      2. “OVO Sound is a record label founded by rapper Drake, his longtime friend Noah “40” Shebib and Oliver El-Khatib.[1] The label is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and was created in 2012. OVO Sound consists of Drake and in-house producers 40, Boi-1da, T-Minus, Mike Zombie, and Nineteen85, along with recording artists PartyNextDoor and Majid Jordan. The label’s releases are currently distributed by Warner Bros. Records (Warner Music Group).”

        checkmate, nigga!

    6. Why do people hate JayZ?

I respect you if you just don’t like his music. But some people call him a sellout?

why is it that so many blacks will only celebrate you as long as you dont get too much success? I’ll tell you. because those of us who think that way are the REAL enemy. you allow someone to program the idea in your head that blacks can’t be but so successful before they are considered a sell-out. it’s like a tax bracket. you good until you pass a certain success level. then you are a sell-out. Yall don’t even realize that this is a slave mentality.

      1. It’s not the success that they hate. It’s what they do with it. His philanthropy is pretty pathetic given how much money he has.

      2. It has nothing to do with philanthropy Jay Z gives back he just broadcast it “best form of giving is anonymous to anonymous”…we are hate each other unless we are failing…Jay Z stay winning, str8 power moves
