Rhymefest to Release “El Che” on Red Cassette Tape

Raekwon’s debut album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… will surely go down in Hip-Hop history, not simply because of the classic songs featured on it, but also because of the purple cassette tape on which it was released. Dubbed the “Purple Tape,” its unique clear purple shell quickly became a collector’s item. Now, fifteen years after its release, the legacy of the “Purple Tape” lives on through Rhymefest.

The Chicago rapper announced today that he will release a special edition red cassette tape of his upcoming sophomore album El Che, due out June 8 on dN|Be Entertainment. Rhymefest says that the decision to release the “Red Tape” is an attempt for him to bridge the golden era of Hip-Hop to the present, and more specifically, El Che. Rhymefest will also release a clear, prison-safe cassette tape that will use no screws or contraband materials as to bring the power of music and conscious thought to those behind bars. Both the “Red Tape” and the prison-safe tape are available for purchase at ElCheTheMovement.com, along with the CD and digital versions of the album as well.

      7. “DUDE I AINT KNOCKING ANY OTHER RAPPER BUT WHAT I KNOW LISTENING TO HIP-HOP FOR 25 YEARS, I KNOW MORE THEN ANYONE ELSE….WHAT IS PURE, UNADULTERATED HIP-HOP IS WHAT I LISTED…I AM NOT A KNOW IT ALL BUT SOMETHNG YOU FEEL AS AN ARTFORM, YOU SHOULD LET PEOPLE RECOGNIZE, THIS IS ALL IT IS..I AINT LAME EITHER…YOUR LAME FOR MENTIONING LUPE FIASCO LOL, YOU LIKE SKINNY JEANS AND THONGS AND PINK CLOTHES TOO MALCOLM LOL, FUCK OUTTA HERE SON! ———————————————————————————————————
1st off chump, I’m a grown ass man so save that “son” and “father” shit for someone else. I been listenin to Hip-Hop just as long as you have fam, 25 years. Someone in my circle has a Hip-Hop related question, I’m the one they call. Not only that, I’ve been writin for the past 18 years and recordin for 15. So tell me, exactly WHAT makes you more of an expert than me, or anyone else for that matter?! THAT’S what makes you lame…that, plus assumin that just cuz I like a certain artists music that I’m down with the skinny jeans and all that other faggotry. For your information CLOWN, I just so happen to be a big supporter of Chicago music because I live 2 hours from the Chi and damn near everyone I associate and politic with is from there. I fucks with Rhymefest too, but I suppose your goof troop ass got somethin to say about that too. The fuck outta here, you keep playin yourself more and more everytime you hit the Submit Comment button.

And turn the damn Caps Lock off, angry mf…

      8. DUDE I AINT DISSING YOU WITH ANYTHING, YOU CAME OFF WITH THE CONTESTING WORDS FIRST, IM COOL LIKE THAT…AS FAR AS RHYMEFEST GOES I JUST AINT FEELING HIS STYLE AND HE GETS A BIT GRIMY WITH THE NONSENSE, WHO I MENTION ARE GUYS WHO HAVE CALCULATING ASPECTS ABOUT THEM THAT MAKE THEM DEFINE HIP-HOP…IF YOU KNOCK THAT, CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO YOUR SHIT THAT I MAY CONSIDER WEAK BUT THATS ALL GOOD…ITS ALL ABOUT DIFFERENT TASTES. IF YOU THINK THE ARTISTS I NAMED ARE WEAK THEN SO BE IT. I AINT GIVING A SHIT AND I AINT COCKY WITH IT EITHER, I JUST HAVE A THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF HIP-HOP…MY OPINION IS VERY PERCEPTIVE IS ALL I AM TRYING TO TELL YOU AND I AINT NO CLOWN, IF YOUR A CLOWN ITS ALL GOOD, BUT YOU CANNOT TALK DOWN TO ME BOY…SO JUST RELAX YOURSELF DUDE, ITS A FUCKIN DEBATE NOT A WAR MONEY.

      9. Nah I’m too old for e-beef my nigga, my main issue was how you came across with your 1st post with some of the shit you said. I commend anyone with a REAL knowledge of Hip-Hop in this day and age, and you do possess that…props to you for that. But look at some of the statements you made in that post famo…like seriously, re-read your 1st post. In fact you don’t even gotta read that post, all you gotta do is look at the shit I quoted back to you. I ain’t the one that came with the contestin words first my nigga, you came out the gate with the whole “I’m better than everyone else, and my opinion’s the only one that holds any weight” attitude…and if you can’t see that, then I really dunno what else to tell ya. Like I said from the beginnin, you did make some good points…but you ain’t have to be such a dick about it…feel me? Ain’t no beef though, I love that real shit just like you love that real shit…plus we both old school so ain’t no need to go at each other’s throats like that. I dunno about you, but I’d much rather come at these coons out here shuckin and jivin, the ones makin a mockery outta the culture. Stay up my nigga.

    4. That’s wassup! Rhymefest is that dude!

Can’t wait to hear El Che…

It’s been a long wait but i hope it will definitely be worth it!

      35. TERMANOLOGY – YOU CAN CATCH SOME HEAT LISTENING TO DUDE
      36. SCARFACE – THIS GUY IS THE ONLY SOUTH ARTIST WITH COMPLEX RHYME SCHEMES.

THIS LIST DEFINES REAL HIP-HOP, THIS LIST DEFINES A MAN WHO KNOWS THE ART BETTER THEN MOST AND THIS LIST DEFINES THAT 15-20% OF WHAT IS ONLY GOOD ABOUT HIP-HOP MUSIC…THERE IS ARTISTS THAT COME OUT WITH ONE GOOD SONG, 2-3 MAYBE BUT THESE GUYS ARE ALWAYS CONSISTENT AND IF YOU AGREE WITH ME…

      YOU HAVE HIP-HOP IN YOU.

      1. First off Phonte is from NC so its not true by your own logic that Scarface is the only one with complex flows. Just because these dudes is underground don’t make them great, some of these dudes is garbage and you left some very “complex” emcees off your list. How you gonna leave off Andre? You have Skyzoo but no Murs, Chino XL but no Blu? C’mon son!!

    6. Yo why is this post focusing on Rae’s purple tape, when Redman’s “Dare Iz A Darkside” was actually the red tape, which dropped in 1994 before Rae’s purple tape? Rhymefest should pick another color. PEACE
      Leeps from DotGotIt.com

    7. LOL @ y’all tryna go on ‘Fest. Yeah he’s no superstar but son is nice.

but I’d like to point out:

1 – He said he was using the Raekwon album as his “influence” for the Red Tape. HE NEVER SAID He was the 1st to do it (red) and HE NEVER SAID Raekwon was the 1st to do it either (purple or any color for that matter, what about old rock bands and shit like that.)

2 – Redman had a SOLID RED color and Raekwon’s was clear.

2a – Them bragging up on Raekwon is just another way for them to be biased on anything new. They want to bring back the old shit everyday and act like niggaz ain’t made nothing new or original since then even though MOST Hip Hop records from ANY time period were pretty much just renditions of songs that were HOT and CURRENT (otherwise they wouldn’t have been as popular,,,, that’s some duh-shit shirloxx). But without the fakin’, they do have a point.

3 – That list of supposid “REAL” Hip Hop that SlimeFace made would put me to sleep in a quick-fast-hurry. Son I grew up on DeathRow (mainly), Ca$h Money, and the rest of Def Jam basically, along with the usual suspects from the 80’s and 90’s and I’m tired of all u bum ass niggaz talkin about this is real hip hop and that isn’t when niggaz from tha trap today don’t even be fuckin’ wit’ none of that shit like that unless it’s on tha radio and nobody feels like turnin (that doesn’t mean tha songs aren’t “good” but they just don’t resinate like that like). AND NIGGAZ WILL TURN ASAP, don’t get it twisted. I hated “The Jeffersons”, just sayin’.

4 – Only them old ass bum NewYork and Philly niggaz and Boston niggaz rock wit that old shit y’all tryna hype up like that all the time. From Delaware on cross to Cali niggaz don’t be rockin’ wit none of that “Rock The Bells” shit unless your pushin 40. I hate tha assumption that everybody younger than y’all metamucil fartin asses just don’t know about the shit bcuz “somebody didn’t teach us or show us”, like the rappers and y’all bum ass 30+ year old Philly 2 Boston ass niggaz haven’t been bitchin about it for tha past 4 years now. It’s died down in the media (with the rappers) but it still plagues certain audiences.

5 – My man ‘Fest is a beast, get off his nuts. If u think Lupe is wack then your just not a fan of quote unquote real hip hop; you know the style of hip hop u old headz dubbed so ignorantly a couple years ago. I fuck wit Nas and I think it was PURE GENIUS how he came out with that “hip hop is dead” thing, that shit still has people goin as we see but y’all niggaz need to give that shit a break. there’s a few commercial niggaz that would put alot of them past time heroes to shame. Don’t let Jordan have a 1on1 with LeBron today that’s all I’m sayin.

      1. actually i retract my last statement and i read on it seems like you basically talkin about wayne in the past and how he made it from a hot boy to super stardom and i see u give lupe his props i thought u were some lil dude from beverly hills saying lil wayne was the messiah of rap…future..nah it is lupe i no longer listen to wayne and to tell you da truth i still think he was better in the past

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBGsOKhN5k

and when you listen to this you will actual think he wrote it

    8. another thing. y’all niggaz really need to stop hatin’ on Wayne. son might not be the Greatest Rapper to me or u but none of y’all can possibly sit here with a straight face and say Lil’ Wayne don’t deserve to be where he’s at right now. Lil’ Wayne is the future, like it or not. He has good reason and an even better track record (with a word in the dictionary) to be in the top spot.

y’all niggaz seen what happened to Consequence when him and Nelly was in the booth. Con’s career ain’t never been the same since lol. Don’t letcha’ boy Wayne come in and do that to 1 of y’all favorites. Especially with son sittin’ in a box right now staring at the wall talking to himself and freestylin’ all kinds of shit. When the nigga get out yeah he still might be on that Pop Music shit but garanteed your favorite rapper ain’t gonna wanna fuck wit him.

      1. fuck lil’ wayne. who the fucc was talkin about his bitch ass anyway. if he’s the fuccin future, we should just all kill ourselves tonight. drink the fuccin kool-aid.

      2. just by the comments you said..i can almost assume you don’t listen to hiphop don don…u listen to hip-pop…and the way you are talking about wayne i will also say you ain’t listen till him untill mayb a drought mixtape … i was listening to lil wayne when chances are you were listening to lil zane..back wen b.g’s was b.g and lil wayne and they had their single off the porch. lil wayne’s best days ended in the 90s after lights out and guerilla warfare .now i’m not bashing you but u said some of our favorite rappers wouldn’t step in the booth…mine are ll redman andre lupe slick rick and a few others to name and if you listen to HIP-hop then you will agree lilwayne aint fucking with them .. IF you throw soulja boy in you top 5 …top 10..infact top20 rappers then that tells me and the rest of the people you do infact listen to hip-pop but none the less more power to you

    9. I can appreciate this man trying a way to bridge the gap between hip hop eras. More importantly, making sure our nation’s delinquents can have some music without slicing someone in the shower.

      Thats very nice of him.

    10. Fest is dope…always been underrated…he fucked up being under so many umbrella labels like mark ronson’s and kanye’s that he never found his lane but son is nice..and to the dude loading up his net bullets and aiming his keyboard sideways u know nothing bout ny-philly boston dudes fam,,,stop being ignorant..u never left the corner so dont try to be a G…the fact u grew up on deathrow explained it all…i wouldnt speak on an area I know nothing of..fall back go slip in pac’s all eyez on me and practice your index and thumb imitation of gun pointing in the mirror and call it a day b….

      1. the cassette aint for everybody just for tha people who are incarcarated. they arent allowed to have ipods or cds in prison.

    11. Yeah smart is what the cassette is about
to make sure he has fans somewhere
put yo shit on cassette its way cheaper
and way more profit if hopefully
a shit load of people like this fool

    12. Smart move. Why? Because they don’t allow Ipods or CD’s in prison but you can buy cassettes oddly enough. Big business that a lot of cats don’t know about.

      1. @Roddy–I did research dumb ass! And if you read my post you would see i said that you “CAN’T” HAVE Ipods or CD’s. You no reading motherfucker!!!

    13. This nigga dumb!!!! they dont make cassette players anymore, new cars arent equipped with this outdated bullshit.

      1. Next this nigga will release on Red vinyl. LOL. I guess people like HTT20 still buy CDs too, LOL, Lame ass bitch.

    14. lol @ all u heads with that same ass cliche’ excuse 4 not seein’ that ur wrong about Hip Hop. c’mon now how many times r people gonna be like “oh u listen to pop music bcuz”… u don’t fuck wit’ the Immortal Techniecs and Talib’s of tha game. That shit is so sad and so sorry. Maybe i just don’t fuck with them bcuz they’re boring. Actually, I listen to tha darker more “depressing” side of Hip Hop (24/7, even when I’m in a good mood). Tha fact that I grew up crankin’ tha shit outta my “dogg food” tapes and “mystic stylez” music has zero-zip-zilch to do with tha fact about my intellect on hip hop, i just prefer them over the “return of the boom baps” and the “apocolypse 91’s”. sorry famalam, maybe y’all should actually LISTEN to those records instead of just knocking em off bcuz y’all never were interested in em. And last, 4 tha record I DO KNOW what’s going on UpNorth, all of my fam is from UpNorth mainly, I got peoples I ALWAYS SEE and chill with up BMore, Trenton, NewYork, and my cuzzin D’ who used to stay up FosterCare in Boston. I DO have a feeling or a vibe or whatever u wanna call it up there. Fact is if that shit was really poppin like y’all swear up and down it should be it would be bigger. And bigger in the terms of more people gravitating to the music. I haven’t listened to tha radio (rap anyways) in years, matter of fact I haven’t really since when “touch it” by Busta was hot. Y’all niggaz r just a buncha bloggin’ ass simpletons. I ain’t never been couped up in no cradle. Face it, you giyz r tha “bell bottom high top fade generation” and we’re tha “white tee gun totin’ generation”, y’all like our style more than ur own.

    15. Just to add…

Ironically, ALL the “colored” cassette tapes are classics: Illegal’s “The Untold Truth” (RED Tape ’93), Masta Ace’s “Slaughtahouse” (Yellow Tape ’93), Redman “Dare Iz A Darkside” (RED Tape ’94), Rae’s “OBFCL” (Purple Tape ’95)

Still wonderin why DX compared Fest’s joint with Raes’? Rae joint was “purple”. I guess its cuz it was the last colored tape dropped?? If anything, compare it to Illegal’s or Redman’s joint; they started the “colored tape” movement and each were colored RED, and CLASSICS as well.

*No Disrespect Sean, but DX, if yall need an assistant writer…holla at me “Divine12th@yahoo.com”

      Divine, PEACE!

    16. its a clever idea if you dont want anyone to listen to your music.. lol people will have to go to the antique shop and find a cassete player in order to listen.. this is one of the dumbest i deas i have heard in a long time lol

      1. Fuck you Razah he has point. A fucking cassette tape man get the fuck outta here.
How do know he dosen’t know what real music is, and I never realized there was fake music. I know that every fucking rapper is fake and you probably believe all that stupid noise. Like motherfuckers are hitting the blocks still after they get that check…..PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    17. RHYMEFEST IS THE SHIT. What other motha fuckers releasing cassetts. Yo thats dope. All yall motha fuckas whos sayin he a “dumbass nigga” shut the fuck up you aint gotta buy it go buy your faggot wayne ablum or canadian boys new shit just like everyone else.

    18. Being incarcerated it’s tough to get new Hip Hop. Salute to Rhymefest for not forgetting about us in Menard Correctional Center. We’re all going to show love back by supporting the album. Can’t wait for June 8th!

    19. enuff with the Wayne and Drake references please. that shit is so gay. grow tha fuck up…. EVERYBODY. lol, damn. Wayne ain’t even MY favorite MC (i don’t have 1) but damn if the man don’t have annoyin ass haters. gag on dicks bitches

    20. does anyone else have a problem with him being openly/admittedly homophobic? cuz that’s when i kinda stopped listening to him…
