Restless: Dr. Dre & Xzibit Really Want You To Know They’re Back In The Studio

Xzibit has reconnected with Dr. Dre and started plotting some new music with the Aftermath Entertainment boss. The veteran MC shared a photo of himself and the hitmaking producer at work, devising their plans with a pen and notepad.

“About last night…… the almighty D.R.E @drdre and yours truly,” he wrote via Instagram. “I think we are on to something.”

Xzibit hasn’t released a solo album since 2012’s Napalm. The LP featured one track produced by Dre: “Louis XIII” featuring King T and Tha Alkaholiks.

The picture posted by Xzibit emerged less than a week after Dre was spotted in the studio with Nas and Slim The Mobster. While it’s unclear what they may have been working on, Nas has been teasing some new projects as of late.

Nas confirmed a new release executive produced by Hit-Boy, but he’s kept quiet about the other one. The secrecy could have something to do with Dre being involved.

“There’s some projects going on,” Nas told Video Music Box’s Ralph McDaniels in April. “One of them, I was working with Hit-Boy and I still am. And then there’s another, the one I’m working on that I don’t want to disclose. But Hit-Boy, that’s been fun working with him. So he played a snippet in the battles the other day, a snippet of something. We got some things.”

Unlike Nas, Xzibit hasn’t explicitly announced a new project. But in an interview with HipHopDX, the West Coast rapper did note he’s re-releasing his Restless album in honor of its 20th anniversary, which will be celebrated in December.

X to Z also indicated the reissue may include some previously unreleased tracks from his Golden State Warriors supergroup with Ras Kass and Saafir.

    1. Xzibit doesn’t get his just due for being one of the most consistent artists! I’m all for X on some Dre production!

    2. And I really want you to know that I don’t give a fuck. Dre don’t release shit and Xzibit is wash-up

    3. I still bump X to the Z. His album Full Circle and Napalm was slept on, especially Full Circle. Movin In Your Chucks was one of the standouts on there with Kurupt and Too Short,

    4. Glad to see X and Dre back in the lab. I wish X would do a Restless sequel with Dre and Rottweiler on the tracks

    5. For the album “Sumer of Sam” by serial killers. Dre did 4 tracks on this album(mixing not production) x is also working on his solo album “king maker” gonna be a cd/dvd like James savage. Season 2

    6. OG Nate Dogg died broke and without a REAL album because of dre.
Rage NEVER got her album as promised.
      DOC never got his album.
      RBX never got his album.
      That Helter Skelter album ….naaa..
Dre is a lazy ass slouch.
Spends too much time with Eminem and with his gay friends.
Nobody cares Xibit is dropping new shit….seriously??? FOH dre a punk

    7. Dr Gay is a career killer . Bullshits artists until they say fuck u and ride out on their own.
      Dre has no real friends.

    8. Don’t forget he had the GOAT Rakim on the roster for years and only put out a fucking feature w/ Truth Hurts. Dre hasn’t made a decent beat in decades. And WTF is he doing with all these hoarded tracks?! Yo DRE, give those masters to someone with the balls and confidence to make and actually put out a beat you self conscience bitch. Never has one of my heroes turned into such and enemy. And please with that Compton album, I don’t even know where your verses were. God damn, breaks my heart.
