Read Future’s Heartbreaking Tribute To Late Sound Engineer Seth Firkins

Seth Firkins, a sound engineer who’d been working with rappers on the Atlanta scene for years, passed away in his sleep on September 23.

Firkins was especially close to Future, and had worked as the engineer on the rapper’s 2012 Pluto 3D album. Some other major credits include American Gangster by JAY-Z and The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted by Gucci Mane. He also worked with Young Thug, Rihanna, Ciara and Trina.

Future shared a touching response on social media, writing a lengthy Instagram caption to celebrate the life of his friend.

“I always gave racism a cold shoulder because my real brother Is a white guy by the name of Seth Firkins,” he wrote. “I got a call saying u died in your sleep? First thing came to my mind is, why are you sleep at 5am? That’s when we record our best shit & I tell u ‘don’t’ fall asleep we got more work to do.. but somethin told me I should’ve been at home recording for some reason.”

“I was saying this in my head, then bad news beat me home! I love u beyond this post, I will cherish u forever big bro, I just wish u would’ve text me & told me u was going to sleep and i wasn’t going to be able to wake u up this time…the family will miss u 1000%!! No kap in my game kid, rest well my brother. Rest well.”

Future wasn’t the only one to pay his respects to Firkins, who passed away the age of 36. Other Hip Hop producers and sound engineers, such as Mike WiLL Made It and Alex Tumay shared their grief, with Tumay saying “the world is going to sound so much worse without him.”

No cause of death has been reported.

    1. Big display of character right here by future – they say a little bit of light is all you need in a room full of darkness – here’s to him shitting on racism in 2017 while media outlets and rap fans seem to be promoting it (check out kap thread in here) – much respect and rip to your man

      1. Damn you’re so white, nobody promotes racism you dumb shit. We’re fighting it, but you’re white so you don’t face it so you can say such dumb things like this.

White people will listen to hip hop but not to black people nor care for them. They love our culture but can’t respect it. You little bitch.

        1. Your argument here holds no value at all. You are emotionally driven which explains why you insult before raising valid points. I will never meet you, but if you want people to take you seriously I would suggest you up your argument before you up your emotions. If you start by saying “damn your so white” You’ve already lost your audience. You seem to think I am racist, and if you were correct, what would throwing extreme racism back at me accomplish? Just some insight for you, good luck

          1. How do you listen to Hip Hop and not listen to black people? Your saying white people only listen to white hip hop artists? Uh ok lol

            1. I think your response was to “Racism is real idiot” – The same guy Who says he’s fighting racism by starting a comment with “Damn your so white” and following it up with “your so white you don’t face racism” I agree with you Caliente and I think “Racism is real idiot??” Should read his comment before claiming he is fighting racism LOL #whosreallyracist?? #DAMN

            2. Damn you’re so white, you think that white people face racism? Where in American history have you faced institutionalized racism?

And I clearly said white people only listen to hip hop but not to black people, if you 2 idiots don’t get what that means that’s exactly why you’re typical white guys.

Also my audience is People of color who see past ignorant ass white ppl like u, didn’t lose them I’m sure.

            3. all you did was bash white people, and you did it in the same paragraph as stating youre fighting racism. I don’t have to say anything anymore, you played yourself

    2. RIP to the guy. But the opening line is why you shouldn’t sip lean and pop adderall. You’ll sound like a jackass.

      1. The guy was a sound engineer. If anything, his vocation should contradict your misguided narrative that all Jevvs wield influence and are part of a global conspiracy to conquer the world.

        1. you missed the point here, the comment was about these (((people))) are considered white. they do bad things, white man gets the blame. the transatlantic slave trade being a prime example of blaming the wrong whitey. and all these (((white))) people in the entertainment industry fuckim black people over etc.

        2. let me guess your “misguided narrative” – all muslims are terrorists and Israel is a democracy and the jevvs are the victims of Palestinian aggression.

      1. Gucci will pay for this, that’s for sure. I am appalled, didn’t anybody read the book before it was printed and published? He is basically saying the chosen people are pushing the gangsta rap that is destroying black youth. His antisemitic accusations are beyond appalling.

    3. Here we go again. This is like Ice Cube (and Dr. Dre too) attacking Jerry Heller all over again. Just because of his religion and ethnicity. I am truly disgusted.
