Rappin’ 4-Tay Blasts Drake Over Verse On YG’s “Who Do You Love”

Rappin’ 4-Tay sent a tweet Monday (December 30) dissing Drake over his verse on YG’s “Who Do You Love.” “New Song w/ @YG Feat @Drake In This Song Drake Copys My Lyrics & Lines From My PlayazClub Song & Pays No Homage! ???” the San Francisco rapper says on his tweet.

On “Playaz Club,” Rappin’ 4-Tay starts his first verse with the following lyrics: “I got a ho named reel-to-reel / She got a buddy named SP 12, now you know the deal / We gets freaky in the studio late night / That’s why the beats that you hear are coming real tight.”

On YG’s “Who Do You Love,” Drake begins his verse with the following rap: “I got a shorty named Texas Sin / She got a buddy named Young JB and now you know the deal / We turnt up in the studio late night / That’s why the songs that you hear comin’ real tight.”

Rappin’ 4-Tay released the single “Playaz Club” in 1994. It was included on his Don’t Fight The Feelin’ album, which was also released in 1994. Rappin’ 4-Tay’s Don’t Fight The Feelin’ album was named after a cut from Too $hort’s 1988 album, Life Is…Too $hort, on which Rappin’ 4-Tay appeared.

In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX in November, Rappin’ 4-Tay said he had a string of new albums set for release.

“Star-studded,” the Bay Area veteran said. “I got a whole bunch of predominant artists that got tracks on there, Too $hort, Snoop, Daz and Kurupt. The list goes on. Treach, Akon. We got one on there with Bone thugs-n-harmony, the Ying Yang Twins. It’s gonna be star-studded. And then the other album is gonna be called I Got The Bay On My Back, which brings back all the classic Bay Area rappers that you haven’t heard from in years. I got all of them coming back on that album. T.W.D.Y. and Ant Banks, he’s got a track on there. It’s a little touch of the Bay to give the local fans a taste of what we been doing. I even got a track with Tupac on there.”

Rappin’ 4-Tay’s tweet regarding Drake is as follows, as are “Playaz Club” and YG’s “Who Do You Love” featuring Drake.

    1. Drake just a lame rich boy whos mommy got him into the industry his music for homos n females it is not hip hop.

    2. They really aren’t that similar. Something tells me this guy’s taking a page from Lord Jamar’s book to try and regain some degree of relevance.

    3. I got a feeling drake won’t be with ymcmb by the end of 2014 and he is gonna get in some beef that’s gonna end his career like 50 did Ja Rule….who wanna bet??

    4. rappin 4-tay’s video has 2.5 million views on youtube. seems like drake was paying homage by flipping the line & assumed ppl wud know it came from what he considers a classic track. does 4-tay expect rappers to release public statements every time they flip other rappers 10-year-old lines? it wud be one thing if he took the line from some dude with 2,000 youtube views but this is 2.5 mil.

      1. VERY WELL-PUT. 4 Tay could have played this cool… thanked Drake for the compliment but instead he looks like he’s acknowledging no one knows his material. Rappers do it a lot… rhyme off someone else’s lines as a sign of respect. Especially as of late

      2. “assumed ppl wud know it came from what he considers a classic track.”

cmon son. you know damn well most drake fans dont know anything about classic hip-hop.

      3. Thats fucking stupid. people in rock dont steal each others lyrics because no one has heard of them. They just Do Covers of the Actual Song. WHat the fuck

      4. @ milli- first off the song is like 20 yrs old not 10. most drake fans know nothing about rappin 4…drake is just doing what he do, dickriding the bay area which is fine because he is paying homage but he doin it the wrong way. drake was supposed to reach out to dog and tell him he was gonna use his shyt in the form of paying homage. theres a right way to go about everything

    5. You got to understand that Rappin 4-Tay comes from an era where bitin someones rhymes were condemned, word up!

      1. you got to understand that drake comes from an era where using someone’s rhymes are accepted and he don’t give a fuck, word up.

      2. Reading your reply and looking at your name I don’t take you serious at all so you can fall the fuck back.

      3. You act like 4 Tay is 100 years old. He’s still around. If he can’t handle someone more successful than him rattling off a similar line then he should seriously find another career. I’m pretty sure he’s experienced worse things than this on the streets of the bay.

    6. this old has been better be lucky and thankful that drake even used his lyrics at all. drake loves to give irrelevant niggas their 15 seconds of fame and then they disappear again, ask wu-tang. where they at now? exactly. #NWTSAlbumOfTheYear #OVO #OldAssIrrelevantHasBeensAreThirsty

      1. …old?…..funny how you say old when your generation of “hip hop” doesn’t keep a rapper longer than 2 CDs…your generation will NEVER get the accreditation …I’m sorry…props…that an epmd or big daddy Kane would because its just a bunch of just add water rappers on your playlist…here today, doing bootleg movies tomorrow….why you think all the ‘relevant ‘ rappers want to start doing movies? A couple of lame mixtapes in and they are DONE! Drake is decent, even better than 4tay, but put respect where it goes ‘youngsta’, and maybe one day you’ll become an adult. #childrenwillbechildren

    7. You guys are missing the point. That verse was doper than any of Drake’s verses on NWTS, better than any song on NWTS, and it turns out, he stole every single line and flipped the words around except for the four lines that finished with the words “too big”. Much respect lost for Drake.

      1. Doper? lol So while Drake sails towards 1.4 million Rappin Broke Tay is hoping somebody downloads his long forgotten song for .99 cents hahaha

    8. fuck drake that’s some hoe ass shit for not paying homage to a bay area legend who even made a classic track with Pac

      1. yo the first anno is rite 99% of these people up here didnt even kno who was before this lol he should send drake a thank u card lmao

      2. Playaz Club, I Got Cha Back, Tear The Roof Off, Never Talk Down, Game On The Shelf, Ain’t No Playa, Playaz Dedication, etc.

    9. I’m with 4’Tay on this .. the “Sampling” culture in Hip Hop is getting a little bit out of hand .. When you Sample, or “pay homage” by re-using someone else’s art .. that someone else should be on board and even better, that should actually be your homie or someone that you have a legitimate and genuine relationship / partnership with .. I bet if Drake had just reached out first and done it right, it’d be all good and things work out the right way — people get to learn about and re-listen to a CLASSIC record in Playaz Club and Drake adds his own perspective on the words — Win Win, but it has to be treated with Respect and done right .. Lost A LOT of respect for Drake over this .. Still a fan and I’m super glad to see Rappin’ 4’Tay get his shine, but it should have come from Drake and not this way

      1. Whatever. 4-Tay’s bitching and complaining is probably gonna get some of these young fag-swags to look up some of his music.

    10. Drake stole an entire song from Chicago artist big nastee on a song called wass a name.. Look it up. Pretty much every drake song is an obscure song he stole.

      1. He steals from everybody! Most of his lyrics are rips offs from artists and other people. He needs to be giving co-credit on EVERYTHING! It’s not sampling or paying homage if you’re disrespecting and ripping them off!

      1. at least throw in a little shout out in your next line or shit even an adlib would work. any lyricist should be able to do that without a problem. shit with how popular drake is he couldve just shouted 4tay out in a tweet and millions would have seen it and probably checked him out.

      2. All he had to do was somewhere else in the verse figure out how to work in the words “rappin” and “forte” shouldn’t have been too difficult.

    11. Ya come on drake, just cuz your a jew dont mean you have to act like gene simmons. Do the honorable thing and shout out 4 tay, Throw down a verse on one of his tracks. 4 tay is a fucking G, This lack of judgement might not work out for you in the end drake. There is still alot of us who never would buy or listen to your music. but if you start working with legends i might give you a try.

    12. his only fucking hit and hes complaining. black man, theyre putting you on the front lines with this track. What you complaining about? you havent made any good songs since that wack ass playas club track.

      1. they ain’t putting him anywhere if Drake doesn’t mention him, only copies his lyrics. that’s his point doofus.

      2. They’re complaining about Drake giving shout outs to TOO MANY people he don’t know. He’s trying to associate himself with legends the wrong way. It’s like he’s trying to force the issue. He acts like he needs validation from EVERYBODY. Mac Dre is dead and he still name dropped him for NO REASON!

      1. insignificant? in the time when that line was spit, it was far from insignificant. He broke down the process of getting a quality sound. reel-to-reel, sp12 (analog tape + sp12=one hell of a sound if you’re hip to all the hip hop classics made with just those two pieces of gear) Drake’s line was insignificant if anything.

    13. “they ain’t putting him anywhere if Drake doesn’t mention him”

I didn’t realize Drake had to cheerlead Rappin 4 Tay and make sure he gets shine.

    14. “cmon son. you know damn well most drake fans dont know anything about classic hip-hop”

      And you know this how?

    15. Drake bite biggie shit man I can stand his fraud ass I want to see him battle Kendrick Lamar he has no respect for real hip hop his fan slap away for being gay …….and he stay coming to the bay stealing styles just like those ATL niggas man the gots to pay are stay the fuck out the bay game is sold not told or stole

    16. It was one line in one verse, not a big deal. There’s only so many combinations rappers can use to say the same things a billion times.

      1. Uh, case you didnt notice one line can make an entire song be successful, so it is a big deal. rick ross suing LMFAO for their line “Everday Im shufflin”

      2. Stop making excuses, if it’s a mixtape joint not meant for sale cool, if you big time pay that fee! Hip hop use to be no biting allowed to humpty hump did it in do what you like, but even he said it was biting he just like doing it lol yell

      3. yes he is! its okay for him to steal a mans government birth name and beard but you can’t change a generic line!

    17. Rappin 4 Tay > Drake any day. Idgaf bout who sells more and is more popular, its about skills fuck niggaz

    18. Haha I’m telling you these rappers albums gonna start coming with a co credit. Hell producers do it now so why can’t rappers? Like how many hot 16’s have jayz ever spit, I swear a lot of those shits be like hot 12’s with 4 co credit bars. Kia shine banked off drake before yell

    19. Lol at some of these dumb ass crack babies thinking only the white pop charts = a hit. Stop leaning on that whitey crutch. Don’t fight the feeling is a certified classic. If you don’t fuck with the song that’s yo punk ass loss, and ill be around is that deal, both are classic “hiphop” hits. Yell

    20. wouldnt neccesarily say he didnt pay no homage. I think the fact that he started out the verse like that was the homage…..4 tay’s still a legend though, cant hate on him

    21. Drake rapped Mase’s lines in Worst Behavior to big Mase up, now Mase is coming out with another album. dude is a fan of the 80’s and 90’s and tryna bring back the feeling. He’s been rapping since he was a kid, this is his career, he’s been out with alot’o hits than almost half of hiphop’s legends. are we saying this intelligent kid can’t construct some f*cken words by himself? seriously?? why are blacks so selfish and self centered, Jay Z bigged up Notorious BIG and he’s biting?? now its Drake cuz he said like 4 lines from your verse to big u up in 4 bars of his verse?? shit is crazy

    22. Using a line is one thing but Drake used his whole verse. Any artist that has taken close to the whole song has checked with the source first and at the very least should have worked his name in the rhyme. That is true respect.

    23. People should listen to the song. Everyone keeps saying he only started out his song the same but he did 4-Tay’s whole verse! You don’t take someone’s whole verse without checking with them first or at the very least shout him out! That’s not paying homage! It really wouldn’t be necessary for a line or 2 but it was a whole damn verse!

    24. Who cares????? Rappers do that shit all the time. And the only reason this is an issue is because it’s Drake…. And thats real

      1. It’s called biting which is a no no in the world of real hip hop. Jay z has done It with biggie and snoop verses numerous times and people jumped all over him for it, Kendrick stole from kurupt he got called out. Yea it happens all the time but there’s a difference between borrowing a line or two and switching it up and making It ur own or just flat out biting someone else’s work

    25. I don’t really see how it’s a big deal that 4-Tay wants recognition for Drake using his verse because honestly the average Drake fan has probably has no clue who Rappin 4-Tay is. 4-Tay didn’t really saying anything that came across as hating or disrespectful he’s just saying give credit where its due, which he should cause 4-Tay made some great music in his day.

    26. Who gives a fuck? You’re an old man still rapping and dressing like some wannabe pimp. Get over it, grandpa! Face reality. You’re living in a post mid life crisis fantasy world and it’s time to seek help! It’s time for the younger generation to shine. Let the older generation wither away at some nursing home for washed up rappers 45 and up while awaiting Death.

      1. The OP is your typical kid that doesn’t know shit about hip-hop and dickrides whoever’s hot at the moment.

    27. he should sue drake cause Rick Ross a legal identity thief is suing that group LMFAO for saying ‘Everyday I’m Shuffling’ in a song 4 years ago!

    28. Has Rappin-4-Tay won any song writing awards? NO. Has Drake won song writing awards? YES.

Exactly. Drake’s already a legend. He was just paying homage.

    29. Niggas been stealing in hip-hop for years, broke ass burnt match looking brother. Ever heard of sampling?

      1. Black people are the only ones who diss you by bringing up how black the next persons skin is. Who taught you that? Ya massa?

    30. It’s funny how clowns ride the dicks of other rappers like Drake and play like accountants, dissin’ 4-Tay but ‘Pac was down with 4-Tay. Not sayin’ that you have to like his music because he was down with ‘Pac. For comments like that, you sound crass.

    31. Be glad anybody paid homage to your old ass. These older rappers sure are ungrateful when it comes to the newer generation bowing down and paying tribute to them.

      1. I respect Drake’s music knowledge for this but I bet he wasn’t counting on anybody knowing where the line came from or thought he was even on Rappin4tay’s radar. Drake fans should feel a little cheated because it was a dope line but it wasn’t totally his.

    32. “you realize the person that owns the rights to the sampled song gets paid, right?”

In most cases the owner doesn’t get paid. Why should 4 Tay get money because Drake twisted some obscure line?

    33. “its okay for him to steal a mans government birth name and beard but you can’t change a generic line!”

      Names aren’t copyrighted.

    34. “He broke down the process of getting a quality sound”

Too bad he didn’t break down the process of having a long career.

      1. They obviously know what their kids listen to if they blast it constantly. They they go buy the album for their kids to listen to; that’s how the records sell.

    35. I don’t see why he needs to mentioon him, Kanye didn’t mention Common’s name when he rapped his line “I met this girl when i was 4 years old” on Homecoming and nobody got mad about that because the line itself is paying homage, rappers do that all the time.

I am no Drake fan btw but why does someone who most people have no idea who he is have to go and cause controversy against arguably the hottest rapper out right now, has 4-Tay got a new album coming out or something that needs promoting?

    36. Drake is clearly paying homage. He even mentions the Golden Gate Bridge. How STUPID are you people? Oh, I know… Kneegrows are mad because it’s Drake. Jesus Christ you niggas need lives.

    37. Drake straight ripped a whole verse not one line. You clowns that don’t see a real g compared to some fake ass movie star are game goofy.

    38. Drake is a straight up homo and if you listen to his shit then you a straight up homo too!
