Rap Release Dates: The Roots, Rick Ross, Freddie Gibbs, Drake

Rumor has it that Drake needs to clear a few samples for his upcoming album Take Care. Drake was originally supposed to get an edge on the competition by dropping his album on a Monday (October 24th). Now, however, Drizzy will be delivering Take Care on November 15th, alongside Childish Gambino and Eligh & Amp Live. Apparently Drake felt these specific samples were vital to his project, so he decided to put the brakes on it. Can’t be that mad at him, as he did provide tracks like “Club Paradise” recently, as well as “Free Spirit” with Rick Ross. Speaking of Rick Ross, the Bawse will be bringing an early Christmas present with God Forgives, I Don’t on December 13th. Ross just leaked a couple of God Forgives tracks just last week, including the Just Blaze-produced “I Love My Bitches” and “You the Boss” featuring Nicki Minaj.

Once The Roots reached Jimmy Fallon status, it seemed as though releases would be put on the backburner. That’s proven to be far from true as the Legendary will be dropping their first ever concept album UNDUN on December 6th. The last Roots releases were the Grammy Award winning Wake Up! with John Legend and before that How I Got Over. The Roots Crew always has a knack for shaking up music every couple of albums. Remember Phrenology?

With Young Jeezy dropping Thug Motivation 103 on December 20th, the idea of a Freddie Gibbs release in 2011 seemed less and less likely. There were longtime rumblings of “A Cold Day In Hell” the mixtape dropping at some point. However, now A Cold Day In Hell is being marketed as an album and will be arriving on Halloween (October 31st). The CTE young gunner has leaked tracks like the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League produced “187 Proof,” making fans eager for Gangsta Gibbs to show and prove. Well, now he will be. Trick or treat. Perhaps this project will double as a retail mixtape. Speaking of mixtapes supposedly going retail, whatever happened to Cam’Ron and Vado’s Boss Of All Bosses 3 that was supposed to arrive on October 5th? We’re still waiting for that one.
