Raekwon has recruited a vast ensemble of rap legends for his new album, The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Released on July 18 through Mass Appeal, the project will have no shortage of guest features.
Unveiling the tracklist for the album, Raekwon will be joined by his Wu-Tang Clan cohorts Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Inspectah Deck as well as Nas.
There will also be a Griselda flavor on the album with Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn also featured.
The Emperor’s New Clothes will be Raekwon’s first solo album since 2017’s The Wild.
Rae previously opened up about the Wu-Tang reunited for one more album.
Speaking on Instagram Live, he said: “I mean, we tryna get it together, you know? Everybody’s spread out. Everybody’s doing something great in their life, so when it’s time for everybody to get in the room, it just seems like it’s the hardest shit in the world. But it ain’t like we don’t want to.”
He added: “And then you got so many minds. You throw a beat out and a n-gga be like, ‘I like that, I don’t like that.’ It’s hard. It’s real hard, but don’t count us out. Don’t never count us out.”
Raekwon then turned his attention to his own music, saying: “This next record I’ma do? I’m telling y’all, this next record. I’m gonna announce my next record on Cuban Linx day. August 1, 29-year anniversary. I’m gonna hit y’all the title of the next album.
“This one’s gonna fuck y’all n-ggas up. Trust.”
While the announcement didn’t follow as planned, Raekwon is part of a remarkable slate coming from Mass Appeal Records this year.
Having already released an album from Slick Rick last month, a collaborative project from Nas and DJ Premier as well as albums from Mobb Deep, Ghostface Killah and De La Soul are also on the docket plus a posthumous LP from Big L.
The epic lineup of albums is part of Mass Appeal’s “Legend Has It…” series, which it calls “a tribute to the icons who shaped Hip Hop and took it from the streets of NYC to the world.”
