Singer R Kelly may have heard good news in his court case, but his legal troubles are far from over. Kelly’s 16-year-old nephew Brayel Kelly allegedly tried to rob a barber shop but was shot by the owner earlier this month.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Kelly was charged as an adult with attempted armed robbery, attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
On Nov. 6, police responded to reports of a person shot at 524 155th P, where they found Kelly suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. He was taken to a medical center.
At the same time, police also received a report of an armed robbery at a local barber shop. The victim said that a male came in for a hair cut, and afterwards pulled a gun, demanding the victim’s jewelry and money. The victim, reported to be the shop owner, was told to place the items in a plastic bag.
As the victim handed the suspect the bag, he grabbed his own weapon, as Kelly allegedly fired at him. The victim shot at the suspect, who then fled the scene. The victim told police he believed he shot the suspect.
Brayel Kelly is the son of R. Kelly’s brother Carey Kelly.
R. Kelly had no comments on the shooting.
