Quavo has declared that he wants to drop a heap of music for fans to enjoy like artists used to do back when mixtapes were a dominant force in Hip Hop.

On Friday (September 8), the former Migos member took to Twitter to share why he feels as though platforms need to step up so artists can release music at will.

“Platforms need a mixtape outlet for US so we can blitz the market like lil Wayne Gucci future and MIGOS did! tired of holding all this HEATTTT #RocketPower Powered Up Havin plenty to go back to back to back!,” Quavo said.

Quavo’s admission prompted various audio discovery platforms to respond to his request.

Audiomack replied: “We got you [salute emoji],” while LiveMixtapes simply mentioned themselves under the tweet. Many fans also recommended SoundCloud as a resource for the “Stir Fry” rapper to release new music on.

Quavo’s statements come in the midst of a busy year regarding the mixtape landscape. In March, DatPiff.com had to respond to reports that it was closing down, after rumors previously surfaced that the long-running site would soon be no more.

Issuing a statement on Twitter at that time, the company clarified the website was not going anywhere. Instead, it’s working on an updated version that will include improved features and a better user experience.

“Despite the rumors, we are happy to report that we will still be supplying you with all the mixtapes you love,” DatPiff‘s statement read.

While the site is under construction, fans will still be able to listen to the music found on DatPiff‘s official YouTube channel. No specific date of the new site has been announced. “We’re working through technical issues on our site and app, but still actively update our youtube! Thanks for all the love and concerns but we promise, we are still here.”

As one of Hip-Hop’s most pivotal platforms since its launch in 2005, DatPiff has introduced and ignited the careers of many emerging artists. But it’s not just for newcomers — the website has also been useful for more established rappers such as Meek Mill.

In addition, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, Fabolous and more Hip Hop heavyweights appear in a new documentary that celebrates mixtape culture.

Mixtape: The Movie, directed by Omar Acosta (Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives), is “about the story of mixtape culture and its role in spreading Hip Hop around the world … about the outlaw DJs who, for the love of the music, turned a criminal enterprise into a creative and commercial backbone of the music business.”
