He’s in trouble because he didn’t keep up with the requirement of registering as a sex offender wherever he chooses to live. He’s not in jail for his original offense, but if you don’t register as a sex offender (which is a rest of you life requirement) then you will end up back in jail for it as that is an offense of its own.
