Prodigy Reveals The Dangers Of Combining Beef & Business

Mobb Deep emcee Prodigy had a few words of wisdom to share as he spoke on the downfalls of combining beef and business. No stranger to beef himself, he infamously exchanged words with fellow Mobb Deep member Havoc last year via Twitter, Prodigy commented on maintaining a somewhat clean cut persona when dealing with corporate dealings.

“You can’t expect to be squeaky clean,” Prodigy revealed. “You gon’ have some hiccups in the business or whatever. And that’s how it is with us…We make good music I think. And we been consistent. It’s fucked up that our little arguments gotta spill out like that, but sometimes it is what it is. You know what I mean? But my advice to people coming up would be, keep your shit as pristine as possible. Even though everybody know everybody got dirty laundry, try to keep it as close to home as possible. Don’t let that shit spill out into the streets…When you dealing with corporate shit, you want to be as clean and cut as possible.”

Despite the beef-riddled history of Mobb Deep, who have had their gripes with Nas and even the late Tupac Shakur, Prodigy commented on drama with other artists being “bad for business” as he further spoke on the issues that arise when beef and business merge.

“Whatever your environment you gotta adapt to it. And you gotta know that this is business, this is street shit. This is music, this is whatever. You gotta separate certain things. If you take it further than talking it out. If you take it to drama then that’s gonna be bad for business,” said the Queens rapper.

Fortunately for Mobb Deep fans, both Prodigy and Havoc officially squashed their issues with one another at the top of the year with the announcement of their 20th anniversary tour.

Prodigy has seemingly managed to balance both beef and business as he recently linked up with Karmaloop and PLNDR to launch his Infamous clothing line, which features threads inspired by the New York Knicks, his H.N.I.C. album, and more.

“The inspiration for the images is my life. It’s about what I like, what I do and what I like to wear. The images are inspired by what’s in my head. I thought it would be great to be able to wear my thoughts,” said Prodigy while speaking on his clothing line.

    1. Thats why this new generation is so against going back and forth with diss tracks with people now. This newer generation saw the worst case scenario with the whole 50cent vs Ja Rule beef. Jay vs Nas was historic but neither one of them was hurt monetarily because of the beef. But 50 vs Ja? They witnessed Jas numbers drop, is albums flop, and fans completely turn on him.

Personally i think that witnessing that is the biggest reason this newer generation refuses to battle

      1. Ja’s downfall had nothing to do with Em or 50. You act like Ja never recorded or ate again. I thought he should have released The Mirror instead of giving it away for free. I think people kinda turned on him cause it seemed like he gave up. He should have just kept grindin, cause as we all know 50’s run came to an end. It’s inevitable.

      2. I never mentioned Em. And dont be foolish. Im actually a fan of jas work and i think he can outrap 50. But lets be real. 50 and G unit are the main reasons why Ja fell out of the spotlight. 50 was the new guy on the scene that lived a real street life and he was standing on Jas neck. 50 COMPLETELY took ja off balance and made him veer off course of what he was doing. People turned on him because every media outlet you could think of was riding with 50, and also the music 50 was putting out (GRODT) was a classic. along with the fact that Ja started acting like the person he wasnt. And yes 50 did fall from the top but by the time he did, Ja had become an afterthought

    2. Little arguments? Havoc called you a homo. Business or not, some things you don’t forget, and I doubt Prodigy will forget how his supposed “man” turned on him.

      1. Calling someone homo is NOT serious beef. It’s just childish. You gonna go kill someone who called you gay? It’s a word, get over it.

    3. wait a minute dawg, so this nigga saying all that beefing shit Hav was speaking about was true? he ain’t denying it. this guy got his ass fucked in prison.

      1. Jail rape is not about homosexuality – it is about power, aggression and intimidation. Just because somebody (say, Prodigy) gets their fine chocolate mine plundered by the throbbing tube steak of another inmate, does not mean that the recipient is homosexual!

    4. Little to late P, the Brand that was 20 years in the making was tarnished when you and HAV started airing dirty laundry via Social Media, that was bad business, regardless what it was over, when you have longevity like that, you don’t dismantle it with a few tweets. Practice what you preach and keep HAV drunk ass off the social media outlets and in the STU.

      1. do u know how many mobb deep fans never even heard about drunk havoc tweeting that prodigy was gay? not all hip-hop heads follow gossip and hiphop news

    5. Sounds like common sense to me. Takes rapper how long to realize this? lol. Anyways, enjoying the new album P. You and Alc are the new Dynamic Duo.

    6. why is this 40 year old idiot dissing street dudes like tru life and lakey on albert einstein though? thats just asking for problems especially when his “entourage” consists of a bodyguard and two rappers

    7. Gucci Mane = realest rapper ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      – T.I. snitch to the feds
      – Young Jeezy was never bmf
      – 50 Cent snitch and was never in jail but a youthcamp
      – Game was never a banger but lived the life of his brother in his lyrics
      – Nas Escobar never sold drugs
      – Ice Cube never was a gangbanger
      – Dr Dre never was a gangbanger
      – 2pac was a ballerina and never sold drugs after he become famous he was doing some stupid stuff like beating and shooting at people because he though he could get away with it. Without Suge Knight 2pac was just a skinny motherfucker. Oh and i like his music so fuck you.
      – Mobb deep are the biggiest pussies in rap they are short as midgets and keep talking this g shit but never did g shit.

    8. “You gonna go kill someone who called you gay? It’s a word, get over it”

People have died over being called less. If your friend called you a faggot, would you invite him over for dinner?

    9. “But lets be real. 50 and G unit are the main reasons why Ja fell out of the spotlight”

Go back and listen to “Back Down”. That was horrible, and in no way hurt Ja Rule. 50 may have won the so called battle. That was only because Eminem, Dre, D-12, and just about everybody else, joined in. I think if Ja had it over to do again, he’d do the same thing. If he didn’t respond, he would have been labeled a bitch. At least by firing back, he went out with some respect, especially since in REALITY, 50 got punched by Ja, stabbed by Black Child, and jacked the fuck up. Then scared for his life, he got an order of protection. People don’t remember the facts. All they remember is a few diss songs that sounded cool at the time, but that were anything but the truth.
