Los Angeles, CA

Pop Smoke‘s murder suspect, Corey Walker, is set to serve 29 years behind bars after agreeing a plea deal with prosecutors.

Walker, who is 24, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and two counts of home-invasion robbery on Wednesday (February 5) for his role in the 2020 murder of the promising rapper.

Walker was originally charged with murder and faced the prospect of life in prison without the possibility of parole and had already seen a plea deal collapse at the last moment.

He was one of five people charged with Pop’s killing, which was a targeted robbery of the AirBnB that the rapper was renting in Los Angeles.

Pop Smoke’s mother, Audrey Jackson, reacted to Walker’s plea deal by telling Rolling Stone: “It’s over for everybody except for me. This never ends for me. And that’s unfair. I appreciate they got justice to the fullest extent of the law. But my life doesn’t change. I still don’t have my son.”

She also said she doesn’t plan on attending Walker’s sentencing on February 21, adding: “I have not been holding animosity. I’ve just been getting through this. There’s just nothing to say. Everybody’s life has been ruined.”

Corey Walker is not the only person to have taken plea deal over the killing of the “Welcome to the Party” rapper.

King Vermont Raskel, aka Blockstar, who was 15 at the time of the murder, agreed a plea deal that saw him released from a juvenile detention center last year.

Raskel is believed to have been the shooter in the fatal home invasion.

Following his release from custody, Raskel said in an interview with No Jumper that he had no remorse for killing Pop Smoke.

“I’m not sorry about nothing,” he said. “It should’ve never happened, but I ain’t sorry. If I could go back, I’d go back. But I ain’t sorry. People die every day. [Pop Smoke] was rapping about it. All types of stuff. So, I ain’t sorry about it.

“I send my condolences to the family. I wish it never happened. But I don’t regret nothing. Growing up, my people, my family told me, ‘You ain’t sorry for nothing. Whatever you did, you did it for a reason and stand on it.’”
