Playboi Carti is feeling like Lil Wayne amid the success of his new album, Music.
In just two weeks since its release, the long-awaited LP has been certified gold with sales exceeding 500,000.
Sharing a screenshot of a text where he received the news, Carti captioned it, “FEELING LIKE WEEZY WE ALREADY PLATINUM N DA STREETS.”
Carti is seemingly comparing this to Wayne’s major feat in 2008, when he sold 1 million copies of Tha Carter III in its first week.

The person who texted him also noted the certification arrived on the anniversary of his breakout single “Broke Boi,” making for a truly full circle moment.
Last week, Playboi Carti also gave a nod to Lil Wayne when he released the deluxe version of Music with the subtitle Sorry 4 Da Wait.
The expanded edition appears to be an apology to fans for the lengthy delay in releasing the album.

The bonus songs include “Different Day,” “2024,” “Backr00ms” and “FOMDJ,” but they all have been released in various forms before the arrival of Music earlier this month.
After opening with 283,000 units in its first week, Music is the biggest rap debut of 2025 and second largest among all genres, behind only The Weeknd‘s Hurry Up Tomorrow which opened with 490,000 sales.
It also boasts the biggest streaming week for any album since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department last May.
In terms of Carti’s own catalog, Music represents the highest first-week sales of his career and his second chart-topping album following 2020’s Whole Lotta Red, which opened with 100,000 sales.

Despite the impressive numbers, the Opium star took to social media after the chart was updated to contest the first-week sales of Music.
In response to a post on X from Akademiks reporting its 298,000 units, Carti claimed that this figure should have been higher, simply writing: “320.”
Even before the final chart was announced, the Atlanta native was unhappy with how his album sales were being tallied.
It was initially reported that Music was projected to earn around 250,000 first-week units and that physical sales would not be counted.

Seemingly annoyed by these purchases being omitted, Carti wrote on X: “IT IS ODD.”
Billboard has since explained that the album was “available to purchase only as a digital download” and that CD copies “will be issued in the coming weeks.”
