Pigeon John Talks New Album, Tour

Pigeon John has been creating a great buzz in the underground for many years. After starting out in the legendary Good Life Cafe alongside such LA acts as The Black Eyed Peas, PJ is taking his show to Quannum Records, home to Blackalicious and DJ Shadow.

Although busy recording and touring, he was able to sit down with HipHopDX to talk about his new album, tour and more.

“This record, ‘Pigeon John and the Summertime Pool Party,’ will be a better version of them! Pushing the boundaries and taking it to the next level,” he explained to DX. “I’m trying to make music that compares to The Beatles and Freestyle Fellowship. Judging myself against the greats and always looking back to keep my underground Good Life West Coast roots!”

Looking at Hip-Hop greats, he also hopes to make an impact above ground with Summertime .

“I want it to sell more than any other of my records before and I want to be on the top shelf in the underground. It’s time for new blood! I also want to make a huge impact in the mainstream and show a differrent style of hip hop that’s never been heard before, like when De La Soul first dropped in 1988! It was huge and changed everything.”

”And it wasn’t because it sold a lot. It was because it was truly inspired,” he said.

Currently, PJ is hitting the road with Pharcyd member, Fat Lip and Blackalicious. He promises fans an enjoyable show, which he claims is a look back at old school with a new school twist.

“I’m combing the old, old school side of things. The Sammy Davis Jr. thing. I’m bringing it back and slamming KRS One’s mic ethics into it as well. I want to blow peoples heads off and totally hit them where it hurts….the heart,” he added.
