After Queensland, Australia’s recent flooding, two New York Hip Hop veterans are stepping in to provide relief through concerts. Queens’ Pharoahe Monch, who is expected to release his first album with Duck Down Records, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) later this year along with Jean Grae, who is planning several 2011 releases, will headline at tomorrow night’s event at Queensland’s Corner Hotel.
With the pair will be deejays M-Phazes and DJ Boogie Blind. Proceeds from that show and a January 19 show, will go to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
(January 13)
UPDATE: According to website Take40.com, Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae participated in a fundraiser that helped raise over $20,000 for flood victims.
How is Australia in more need then Haiti right now? Australia is a well developed country with good infrastructure and a well educated population that are many times more capable of handling their problems then the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Hate to hate on someone trying to do somethin good but Haiti is bleeding on whole different level then Queensland Australia and it seems a little twisted not to help those in true dispair first. PZ.

ddue i know what your saying but honestly haiti is a lost cause. it was a shit hole before the earthquake, and they just ran a story on the news asking where the billions of dollars in aid has gone. seems like it really hasn’t gone anywhere, but right to the government where they keep it all. its how it is is haiti and how it will always be.
I’m Australian and the flooding has been extreme. It has caused millions of dollars damage, and thousands don’t have homes to live in. People have also died. I don’t think many people outside Aus realize the extent of the damage.
First of all the Corner Hotel is actually in Melbourne, Victoria not Queensland. and second to Brizz, i understand what you’re saying but these guys were in Australia anyway and are doing this, its not like they coming down just for this, running to our rescue.
Ok, didnt know they where down there so i guess that makes sense. I wasnt trying to knock anyone trying to do positive stuff it was just how i felt spontaniousely when i read the article. I know Pharoahe gonna rap his ass off for you guys and best of luck to Australia. ONE.
Corner Hotel is in Melbourne, Victoria. Get your facts straight.
haha I heard they’d be performing on a barge smack bang in the water…
Props guys! Nice to see celebs/sport stars/personalities lending a hand.
I’m from Brisbane, Queensland. Everything even down to the stench is devastating here. After Toowoomba got smashed with the “inland Tsunami” the hardest part for us then was knowing that it was coming, & just helplessly watching. It really is surreal when the heartbreak is on your doorstep. And now Victoria is in serious trouble, & N.S.W & S.A. But Aussies (especially QLDers!) will always help each other out and pick each other up. We’ll be ready to celebrate Australia Day on the 26th, no worries mate!
I’ll give em’ props for helping out, but they should’ve done something like donate 10k to Austrailia and 5k each to Brazil and Haiti. Even though that’s not a lot of money in the first place, it’ll still help. There should be far more of these other rappers, actors, and pro atheletes donating more shit to countries in need instead of buying more unnecessary shit for themselves. What the fuck are our people doing?
