One of the most successful father/son Hip Hop tandems may be Peter Gunz and Cory Gunz. The Bronx, New York emcees have both enjoyed major label record contracts, as 23 year-old Cory readies his debut album with Young Money Records, reportedly called The Commencement.
Father Peter scored a Columbia Records platinum hit in 1997, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” with partner Lord Tariq from their lone album, ’98’s Make It Reign.
Although Cory has yet to deliver a debut, the artist has been working for the last seven-plus years, changing labels and recording constantly. In an interview with The New York Daily News, Peter revealed that at one point, he urged his son to reconsider his ambitions. Before noting that his son was “ready to give up,” Peter said, “I didn’t want him in the music business…one minute you’re hot, and the next, you’re not. Most people can’t handle that.”
The two emcees will be the subject of a new MTV docu-series that will begin April 28 at 11pm EST, executive produced by Nick Cannon.
Am I the only person who didn’t know that Peter Gunz was Cory Gunz’s pops? That’s crazy.
Yes.
Yes….lmao!
I didn’t either.
What ever happened to Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz? They probably deserved one more album, but hip hop is a tough business, and I’m sure Gunz son will learn that fact fast.
Yeah I agree w/Nico 3 about Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq making another album together at least. They were good money as a group and their album “Make It Reign” is a classic album for real. But at the end of the day Peter got his too….He used to write for Shaq back in his “Wannabe Rapper” days for all it’s worth!!
peter gunz was on par with soulja boy. so terrible.
Put this under who gives a fuck news.
I think what he really told his son was “don’t rap like me kid”
