Paul Wall Talks Massive Weight Loss

Houston rapper Paul Wall recently opened up to Ozone Magazine about his massive weight loss of close 100 pounds. Wall, who released his fourth studio album Heart of a Champion this past summer, explained that being approached by representatives from VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club prompted him to look more closely at his weight. He also said that he opted to go for a gastric sleeve surgery to ensure that he would keep off the weight permanently.

“Honestly, when we were in Afghanistan and [representatives from VH1’s] Celebrity Fit Club were contacting [me] about coming on the show,” he said. “That was a hell of a wake-up call. [Being fat] isn’t a secret. You can look in the mirror and try to hide it and cover it up, and it may work here or there, but there ain’t no shirt or hat you can put on or haircut you can get to hide the fact that you’re morbidly obese. That’s what the doctor said: I was ‘morbidly obese.’ I decided not to do [the show] but it was still a wake-up call to have people calling you saying, ‘Hey, you’re really, really fat.'” (NecoleBitchie.com)

He also added, “The surgery I got is called gastric sleeve….[My weight] has been up and down my whole life, so I wanted to do something to permanently fix the problem. Since going back and forth on the drugs for years and taking diet pills, my metabolism was really gone. So I decided to go with the gastric sleeve, because it’s a little more serious than the lap band. They also cut out the hormones that make you hungry. So I actually don’t even get hungry anymore. The doctor talked me out of doing the lap band; he told me it’s the most popular, but it’s not as effective. With the lap band, you lose about 50% of your excess weight. I was 120 pounds overweight. I weighed 320 pounds, and I’m six feet tall. So with the lap band I still would’ve been morbidly obese. With the gastric sleeve, you typically lose 80% of your excess fat. I lost 100 pounds with it, so that’s putting me in a more healthy weight class.” (NecoleBitchie.com)

Since undergoing the surgery, Wall says that his life has turned around dramatically. He says that dropping the 100 pounds has relieved him of the worry of heart attack, saying that it “…literally saved my life.”

“I feel like I got my life back,” he explained. “When you’re so big like that, it’s embarrassing. I didn’t want to go out and be seen. I felt uncomfortable because I’m not used to being that big. People would see me and say something about it, because it was no secret. I was morbidly obese, 120 pounds overweight. It was just embarrassing. I’d be on stage feeling like I was about to collapse. I’d get dizzy spells. I’d be on the airplane and have to ask for seatbelt extensions. Once you go up in the air, it’s really hard to breath. I was just thinking, ‘What if I have a heart attack?’ I want to be here for my kids. I don’t want to have a heart attack. My son is four and my daughter is two and a half. The doctor told me that when you’re 50 pounds overweight, it takes 15 years off your life. So it literally saved my life.” (NecoleBitchie.com)

      1. this gym doesn’t work for everyone..regardless of how much effort one puts in, some people just can’t shed the weight. if that was the case for him, then the surgery would’ve been the best option…not “hoe ass shit” as you put it.

      2. So i guess fat people who are broke are basically fucked, right? GTFOH wit that shit… excersize works for EVERYBODY. you just gotta stop being lazy and keep at it! there is no excuse for that shit. This nigga took da easy route

    1. WoW..didnt know some shit liek this even exists..why dont all the overweight do this then? The man lost THAT MUCH weight through surgery?? this is insane… he looks kinda funny though now all skinny and shit, hahalooks also 20 years younger

      1. seriously, that shit has got to be expensive as hell. why don’t more overweight successful rappers do this though? rick ross, e-40, dj khaled (i know he’s not a rapper) fat joe… well maybe not fat joe because he’s fat joe, but you know what i’m saying.

      2. If it was just about the money then Oprah would look like Tyra Banks. These pills and surgeries havent been around long enough to know the long term effects. Oprah doesnt want to die 2 years after getting her stomach twisted like origami. Oprah would rather stay fat and just live a long life with her soulmate gayle.

    2. how about getting some regular exercise and not eating fast food and not drinking that syrup? stupid. too bad losing weight doesn’t help you make better music.

    3. I’m sure he DID hit the gym. I’ve been in the military for 20+ years, and even I can tell you that every body type isn’t the same. I’ve been fighting my body type forever. I was bodybuilding back in the day and had to slow down on that because of enlarged atrial and heart arrythmias. I’m 6’1 and my natural 6-pack weight is around 235. I tried to break out further, running 10 miles in the morning and 90 minutes of strength training in the afternoon only to get to 225, and if I looked at a cheeseburger wrong, all hell would break loose. I gave Jenny Craig $600/month just to prepare a tailored good nutritional menu for convenience. People just need to shut up sometimes and be thankful if you they are blessed with a good naturally regulated metabolism. Real talk.

      1. niggas in the hood be on that jenny craig son. nothing like that nicely portioned grilled chicken with green beans and carrots after smoking a nice blunt with the homies

      2. I got those slim fast shakes for the low nigga hit me up. I appreciate you sharing your story even if we joke around alot of fat people know how hard it is to get weight off. If you have 20 pounds to lose then hit the gym but if you need to lose 75-300+ pounds you may need a surgery or medication to get it done. I dont like Paul Walls music but this is a good story so congrats to him and his family. I like the idea of never having an appetite that is really genius by the doctors. There is a movement to fight against gay bullying but kids are teased alot more for being fat than anything else and it can lead to suicide.

    4. Congratulations Paul!
I lost this summer about 48 pounds and it depressed the fuck out of me. I know what Paul has been through. Being fat ain’t just being fat. It’s more like when somebody sees you, the only thing he notices is that you’re fat. Being fat affects everything that is about you.

I remember how the chicks ignored me and shit like that, but nowadays I get more pussy than R.Kelly. LOL

    5. I dont buy that this guy put in a serious effort to lose the weight. he choose the easy route. if someone is 500 pounds or more i can understand. this guy just ate and sat down all day and now that he isnt as popular as he was he has time to really look in the mirror. your kids are going to be grateful for the new you but i will look at you as just another lazy celebrity who wants everything hand served to you.

    6. Gastric surgery is for people who are so fat that they CANT excersize. Any grown ass man should be able to dedicate himself for a couple months and lose some weight. Sorry, but you don’t get props for getting your excess lard surgically removed. That’s like a nigga gettin a bionic arm and then bragging about how fast he can pitch a ball.

      1. i know it’s so pathetic. hahaha. what a fat weakling. his champion heart in real life is just as strong as his last album was.

    7. So work out hard and run hard. Walking is fine if you are just starting out or you need to just get out of the house. But for long term health and weight loss you need to actually exercise and walking is about as poor of an exercise as you can get
