Ozzy Osbourne Blasts Kanye West For Using Black Sabbath Sample Despite Shut Down Request

Ozzy Osbourne has taken to social media to blast Kanye West for using an unauthorized Black Sabbath sample after the English rock band denied his clearance request.

In a post today (February 9) on X (formerly Twitter), the Black Sabbath frontman sent out a PSA in the aftermath of the ‘Vultures’ album event that was live streamed the night before, during which Ye and Ty Dolla $ign previewed a song featuring elements of the band’s 1970 track, “Iron Man.

In the post, Osbourne wrote: “. @KANYEWEST ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “IRON MAN” FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS & WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY. HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN.”

Upon catching wind of the tweet, Ye took to his Instagram Stories to speculate that a “celebrity handler” must have sent out the tweet via Osbourne’s account, point to the fact that, while the Rock legend claimed to want “no association,” he and wife Sharon Osbourne dressed as West and Bianca Censori for Halloween last year.

Ozzy Osbourne is not the first artist to be disregarded when it comes to Vultures, Vol 1 sample clearances.

According to TMZ, the Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign also failed to receive permission from the Backstreet Boys to sample their anthem “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” for their new song of nearly the same name.

Kanye also has a history of clearing samples at the last minute. For his 2018 track “4th Dimension” with Kid Cudi, West’s team contacted Louis Prima’s estate “hours before the needle dropped.”

The next listening event for ‘Vultures,’ the New York presentation, will take place at UBS Arena in Belmont Park today (February 9).

“Fans will have the rare opportunity to experience ‘Vultures, Volume 1’ in a high-fidelity audio and visual showcase, crafted by YE and Ty Dolla Sign,” the venue’s website shared. “This event marks a historic moment as attendees will listen to the album together with the artists and album collaborators.”

Tickets went on sale yesterday (February 8) and can be purchased here.

    1. Lol like when will people understand that he has a mental problem?
ozzy must have been in some sort of care and probably witnessed behaviour people have while having a really bad time beeing Bi-Polar, Schizophrenic or Manic…
People in these states are not in there right mind and say things they dont mean like that or laugh about things nobody is laughing about.

But as for most people on this planet, they take the easy route and just lable him as antisemetic.

      Poor society…

I dont want to know how it feels to live a Public life with a mental health issue…

      1. It’s possible to have mental health issues and still be an arsehole. To suggest that he doesn’t have capacity to understand the results of his actions goes beyond ignorance, it’s idiotic.

      2. @wuzhappening U seem to think Ye should get a free pass to say and/or do whatever he wants. WRONG! He NEVER takes responsibility for his words and actions but thinks we are supposed to just let it go. He chooses not to take meds so stop blaming his mental issues. His biggest fan is himself.

    2. Kanye West can sample his song if wants. Kanye most likely got a compulsory license. Ozzy Osbourne doesn’t have a monopoly over his music. Anybody can sample his music

      1. Absolutely false . People can’t just sample other artists music without consent and many times compensation. If “anybody can sample his music “ dont you think more people would do it ?

      2. Again, doesn’t need his permission if got he got a compulsory license. All Kanye has to do is pay him an agreed royalty rate. Osbourne doesn’t have an monopoly on his music

    3. The dude who literally bit a living mamals head off on stage in front of thousands is saying someone else caused harm to peolle for saying mean words. OH eff off man. I’ve enjoyed some black Sabath over the years, but cmon. Mean words? Biting the head off of live animals? One is extremely deranged and sick, and the other is… rude.

      1. @Jay you have no idea what u are talking about. Ozzy did not know it was a real bat- he thought it was fake. Kanye is a fucking hater who should have his jaw SHATTERED so he can never say another word. And your spelling is atrocious.
