O.J. Simpson has said JAY-Z got it all wrong in his infamous song, “The Story of O.J.,” and that a particular line on the track is a lot deeper than it seems on the surface.
Blogger Augustus Lymon caught up with The Juice on Friday (April 7) and asked him about the line: “O.J. like, ‘I’m not black, I’m O.J.’ …okay.” The former NFL star player was quick to clarify what he really said — and why.
“Well, first of all, [JAY-Z] didn’t say it right,” he began. “When Johnny [Cochran] was talking to me about it, and all that was going on was ‘Black, Black, Black,’ I said man, fuck being Black, this is me. This is about O.J. You know?
“It wasn’t about Black or white. It was about, ‘These guys were after me.’ So that’s how that was expressed. It wasn’t about, you know, ‘I’m not Black.’ It was about, this ain’t about being Black, this is about me.”
While Jigga may have gotten the disgraced football star’s sentiment about being Black wrong, he’s still one of the most in-demand rappers in the game.
So much so, in fact, that he’ll be performing in Paris, France, on Friday (April 14) for a special cultural commemoration.
He’ll be at Louis Vuitton’s upcoming concert in Paris to commemorate the cultural impact of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.
Dubbed “JAY-Z Celebration Concert,” the event takes place at the Louis Vuitton Foundation’s Auditorium in the French capital and is also sponsored by Tiffany & Co.
“To coincide with the Basquiat x Warhol. Painting Four Hands exhibition, JAY-Z will give a celebratory concert to pay tribute to Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, on Friday 14 April 2023 at 9pm, in the Fondation’s Auditorium,” the foundation’s website reads.
The show will be Hov’s first performance since delivering his iconic “GOD DID” verse at the 2023 Grammys Awards, which he said he did out of respect for Hip Hop culture.
“I thought about it, I was in my head and I just broke down and said, ‘You know, it’s a four-minute verse.’ Again, for the culture, for Hip Hop, we got to do that,” he told TIDAL. “This ain’t your traditional song. … It’s not your traditional structure of what you think a song that would be nominated for Song of the Year would sound like. It’s not what you expect. And for the culture and for Hip Hop, we got to do that.”
We should all respect OG’s like oj. Jay Z could learn some lessons about respect from him. Everyone is always messing with OJ like he did something wrong… he wouldn’t hurt a fly
Sounds like dementia kicking in.
Jay Z got everything wrong. HE a bitch first off OJ Simpson the actual goat. for real. Anyone really believe OJ knifed two people by himself not one scratch except a cut finger no DNA evidence that wasn’t proved to be planted? One detective had a grudge and that’s why you pay a lawyer or clowns like Jay Z talk shit on you
White people are so damn jealous of Jay lolololol it’s not his fault he passed Em years ago
What are you even talking about? Em has a very certain fan base. Most people, black and white don’t listen to him… or Jay nowadays either. And what exactly did Jay pass Em in? Popularity? Sales? Streams? Views? Sold out shows? Not sure what metric you’re going by to claim Jay surpassed Em, though you may just be biased and saying it’s better music, which thats just a matter of personal tastes. Nelly surpassed most great hiphop artists, doesn’t mean Nelly is better than a lot of greats.
