Kanye West’s surprise 2 a.m. concert never materialized, leaving thousands of people in the streets of New York this morning.
A social media post surfaced of Yeezy trying to contact New York mayor Bill de Blasio to get his help in organizing the event in the streets after West reportedly tried three locations for his pop-up show, but was shut down each time.
“I need you to call the mayor and shut down the block about four streets…,” West says in the video post, which was shared by TeamKanyeDaily, “so they can come party outside. I know it’s sold out already.”
de Blasio took to Twitter in response to the Bat Signal and made his own version of the post.
“.@kanyewest @kimkardashian Great block parties are planned,” the official says for the caption of a picture of himself on the phone, tagging the rapper and his wife. “@Chirlane & I can throw one w/ you to benefit NYC kids.”
Chirlane McCray, de Blasio’s wife, is the first lady of New York and a social activist.
Instead of performing, West drove through the streets of the Big Apple hanging out the sunroof of a luxury car as fans chased after him.
