Many artists lay claim to the title of “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper,” but only really Nickelus F can back up such boasting. Described by Drake as “…basically the reason I started rapping,” the acclaimed Virginia emcee has stunned listeners in both the battle and mixtape circuits with his lyrical dexterity. Now, DXnext alum Nickelus F is prepping for the May 31 release of his latest project Season Premiere. The ten year veteran and seven-time champion of BET’s 106 and Park Freestyle Friday talked about his upcoming street album and what it means to him.
“Season Premiere is music to live life to,” he said. “There’s catchy hooks, quality production and plenty of food for thought. Everyone that helped in making the album is hungry and highly motivated. They carry the same message in their lives that I try to convey. I’ve always been creative with my lyrics, but this time I’ve decided use my creativity to convey a real message that people can relate to, and maybe learn from with each listen. Overall it’s just good heartfelt music.”
With songs like “Aggressive Content,” “Reese Witherspoon” and “Shine On” featuring XV already garnering acclaim from numerous websites, Nickelus F assures fans that Season Premiere will be a step forward in both his career and his craft.
“As an artist I’ve matured and I’ve specialized, and there is more vision behind my music now,” he said. “I’m about motivating people to do what’s in their hearts. We have one life… Why not live it doing and pursuing something you love?”
