Nelly Reflects On His Years As A Drug Dealer In VH1’s “Behind The Music”

Two days before we mourn The Notorious B.I.G. for the 14th time, a rapper who took over the airwaves two years after Big passed will be the subject of VH1’s Behind The Music.

Behind the Music: Nelly will take a look at his childhood, rise to fame, the trials and tribulations of his businesses outside of Hip Hop, his acting career, and the decline of record sales. While Nelly’s first two albums nearly sold for a combined 15 million copies, his latest sold just 63,000 in the first week.

The St. Lunatic will also go on record for the very first time about his relationship with Ashanti and the death of his sister Jackie, who passed away after battling Leukemia.

Nelly joins the likes of Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Eve, DMX, LL Cool J, MC Hammer, Public Enemy, Diddy, and Ice-T of those who’ve been profiled on Behind The Music.

Behind the Music: Nelly will air March 7.

    (February 18)

UPDATE: VH1 provided press with some quotes from Nelly’s March 7 Behind The Music special. Within the program, the St. Louis, Missouri rapper touched upon something not often known about the multi-platinum artist – his time selling drugs.

“I was slinging whatever I could get my hands on. Whether it was chronic, whether it was crack,” Nelly says in the program. “Sometimes I would ride with my daughter in the car to go make transactions.  A couple of times me, her and my baby mother would be in the car and you know we would kind of be riding dirty.  So like I said, again man, I was very naïve.”

The full episode airs Monday, March 7th at 10pm. EST

    1. i feel you nelly, i use to be out there in crack alley out here in vegas pocket full or raw posted up with a heat. it’s all about survival. 702

    2. I am a dumb ass. Not to mention I can’t rap for balls and I think it’s cool to mention how I was “slangin with my daughter in the car”. What a dumb fuck I am. Sadly money don’t change stupid

    3. 5.0 is a pretty dope album it dident sell alot first week but its stayin on the charts pretty strong

      1. You spelled “you” “site” and “your” incorrectly and you missed off many apostrophes in words such as “I’m” and “don’t”. Take pride in your comments… or don’t do it.

    4. I did not read the article. I just wanted to say that it is so 1990 to say you sold drugs before you became a rapper, and it is disrespectful to your parents child rearing skills.

    5. Naw St.louis is no joke… right now its ranked the number one most dangerous city in the United States.. who isn’t seeling drugs,in a gang,or affiliated with some type of corruption there? I’m just saying you can get killed easily in St.Louis for acting or being dumb.

    6. But of course. EVERY rapper was a drug dealer..according to themselves. Not saying that Nelly wasn’t but i wouldn’t be suprised if he really didn’t sell drugs.

    7. all of you are stupid. why would he lie. Nelly is probably one of the ONLY rappers who DOESNT brag about how he sold drugs. come to st. louis and find out . nelly was a gd back when i was young and foolish too. keep it up nelly

    8. um i do believe Nelly has stated that he sold drugs from the beginning of his career and just because he doesn’t constantly brag about it like the other losers that you guys idolize does not mean he is lying and besides why the hell would his mother sit on this show and like this? Also Nelly has never been the type to try and act hard so i really don’t think lying about selling drugs all of a sudden would help boost his career any way. geesh!
