Nas Praises Chicago Rappers

While in Chicago over the summer, Nas spoke about the issues currently facing the city as part of REVOLT TV’s “Chicago Love” documentary. During a newly released video segment, the Queens, New York emcee praised Chicago’s Hip Hop artists for informing the country about the city’s “state of emergency.”

“Chicago is speaking where other people ain’t talking,” Nas said. “They’re talking for themselves. They’re giving us what’s going on.

“If it wasn’t for the Rap artists personally, the whole country would not know the state of emergency that’s supposed to be going on in the hoods out here,” Nas continues. “So thank God we’ve got rappers from Chicago enlightening the whole world about what’s happening, because nobody else wants to talk about it.”

REVOLT TV’s “Chicago Love” aired Wednesday (November 26). The 90-minute special film was created by Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs and produced by REVOLT CEO Keith Clinkscales and Head Of News, Rahman Dukes.

    1. chicago must have the highest concentration of struggling rappers who dry snitch on themselves by posing with guns almost daily for instagram

      1. Pretty much. Nas is just hopping on the bandwagon like Common does “praising Chief Keef for being raw and real in his music”.

    2. This is bullshit, the nature of what is happening is in no way reflected in the music. There have been like 4-5 popular documentaries made about Chicago crime, and a number of high-profile news reports that have shed light on it. The hip hop scene has probably done more to cloud the issue and harm the situation. Fucking retard,

      1. No, Nas is right. A lot of people didn’t know about those issues, including myself. I’m from Jersey and there’s never anything in the news here about Chicago. You only hear about the good things going on in Chicago, like the food, or Oprah or whatever. They don’t talk about this stuff at all.

    3. nas knows chicago rappers about that life that they rap about. They real gangsters no fake shit. Unlike these so called gangster rappers you hipster nerds praise. For example that bitch nigga stripper gayme called out lil durk. Lil durk came to where gayme was with the choppers and gayme apologized and got punked. This proves that all these industry niggas dont want it with real niggas from chiraq. Real nigga shit

      1. Congratulations, you live in the worst city in America. You want a trophy of a kid holding a gun? Industry niggas don’t want any problems with Chicago rappers, just like I don’t want any problems with any dumb ass random kid who has nothing to lose. It’s not that I can’t knock his punk ass out, it’s just that I have better things to do. Listen man, once you’re a grown up, being cool and havin’ props from niggas in the hood doesn’t count for anything. Get props from your family, and the motherfuckers that actually want what’s best for you. These fools finally make something of themselves and become rap stars, then they can’t escape the chaos because they feel like they gotta represent for shit heads like you. If you so real then stop tryin’ to pull niggas down to your ignorance and starts doing some good in your own cipher. These rappers don’t give a flying fuck about you. And this ‘hipster nerds’ are sitting back comfortably somewhere watching the show as these ‘gangster rappers’ turn rap in fuckin’ WWF wresting, and ‘real niggas’ end up dead over it. Peace Homey.

      2. Glorifying and being gangstas is what largely caused us to become the No. 2 minority in America. Downplaying the importance of being intelligent and educated by disparagingly using the word nerd is what largely causes our communities to have high poverty and unemployment rates. Education is needed to eradicate poverty.

      3. Keef and Durk’s BDN is getting pushed on all sides by GD and MC. Yeah, they’re killing people but they’re getting killed too. The drill rappers that make it out of Chicago can talk whatever they want, because they don’t go back to the hood anymore. Sosa’s already marked by some of his own BDN lol.

    4. big up to all my chiraq niggas. i kno yall goin thru it.with that said what about detroit we had more murders per population. why is no one trying to help us.

      rooker bronson reppin 7 mile.

    5. Nas be talking shit again trust me im from blighty and I’m more than aware of the crime wave in the windy city and I don’t think iv ever heard a single Chicago rap song which kinda means nas is talking shit and the news does cover these things plus the rappers from Chicago are the problem they all think they’re arnie scwarzenegger id have a straightner with any of those skinny fags

    6. There’s a lot of young brothers from the city enlightening people. Add-2, Gerald Walker, Chance & the whole Save Money crew, Think & many others. The drill/trap music is a culture too but I don’t understand how people act like that’s all Chicago has to offer. I’m from this city and that street/gang life is only present in a few areas. I live on the Southside and it’s far from a gated community but it’s almost all good people. People look ignorant as fuck on here arguing about who has the higher murder rate & proud to be claiming a bloody city. Get educated and with that comes more power than this bullshit street life

    7. The problem is that many Chicago rappers are enlightening their listeners about Chicago’s violence by glorifying and sometimes perpetuating the violence.

      1. True talk. You never see any protests over the daily murders occurring within Chicago, or other urban cities for that matter.

    8. video aint reality. music spreads word or entertains. choose what you want from it. plus Now ready for Grab is #lean #kush n #pain pilz (8033104220)

    9. WTF is Nas talking about? WHAT artist and WHAT songs are telling us what’s going on in Chicago???

I hope he’s not talking about chief Keef or lil dork… that’s a major FAIL.
