Nas has revealed that his new album Life is Good will release on July 17th.
Esco broke the news on Twitter, stating that the project will touch down in time to ride out through the end of the summer. “‘LIFE IS GOOD’ – JULY 17TH, 2012!!! #LIFEISGOOD717,” he wrote, adding a link to his official Tumblr page that also shared the release date.
Additionally, Nas will release his new single “Daughters,” produced by No I.D., to digital retail on May 1st. The artwork can be seen below. His video for “The Don” will drop on April 27th.
The Queensbridge native has been at work on the project since early last summer. So far, he has released several cuts including “Nasty,” 
“The Don” and “Black Girl Lost Pt. 2,” the latter of which will not appear on the project.

Nas’ best non-Illmatic releases have been Lost Tapes and the NastraDoomas records. Seeing as those were unofficial records, people have a right to be underwhelmed by his subsequent offerings. A callabbo with Doom would satisfy any real hip-hop head, and bring to an end rap fans berating him for not fulfilling his potential. An LP from dude in 95/96 era with tracks such as Phone Tap, Eastcoast/Westcoast Killas, Eye For an Eye, Verbal Intercourse and Q-Tip’s remix of World is Yours would would’ve matched the calibre of his seminal predecessor. I know it’s quixotic to think he’ll fuck with Premo again, but that would be cool too.

Critics continually talk shit about his albums, condemning “Hip-Hop is Dead”, his promoter is kidnapped at gunpoint in Africa, He’s broke/in huge debt with the government, he’s recently gotten divorced from a heartless ex-wife, and his daughter is a slut that takes pictures of condoms in her bedroom. All of this, yet his album is titled “Life is Good”. What a guy.

Chemistry people, chemistry is the key word! The album (if it’s telling a story he wants to tell) has to have chemistry — Back in the day great rock, soul (and even rap albums) had 2 maybe 3 writers, producers, composers, etc like Leon Ware, Gamble and Huff, Norman Whitfield, etc.. It gives the cohesiveness of an album.. Even the illmatic producers at the time were all locked in around a grand theme of how to focus on making NY come alive via audio for Nas.. 18 years later, just let Nas form the album with the producers he feels that chemistry with. Jay does it, Ye does it and so does Em. You can’t always send a great rapper dope beats and expect him to just hear what you hear or feel what you feel. Nas said No ID and Salaam were there and willing to sit down with him to form the tracks, and Premier said his tracks didn’t fit so they’re saving it for their compilation. #LIFEISGOOD717

I’d say Jay-Z only has three albums that are in contention for being consider “classic” and those are Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. Even though I enjoy In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 and American Gangster an awful lot there aren’t quite classics.
Nas on the other hand has Illmatic, Stillmatic, and It Was Written which could easily be considered “classics”. Throw The Lost Tapes in there too, which I actually believe his second best album.

Nas has and will have a strong fan base. you talk about album sales… well how does an artist’s sales translate to a classic album? By this logic, If i put out a CD and buy a million copies of my own CD, then I will have a classic. Basing the success (more importantly, quality) of an album on how many CDs sold, is evidence of popularity that manifests from great marketing and advertising.
Bottom line, Jay only sells because he has a bigger white fan base. therefore, it is illogical to base the quality of an album (or the quality of an artist) on how many albums it sold.

Nas is one of the greatest, plain and simple. There is no question that he is in the same catagory as Pac, Biggie, Mobb Deep(Prodigy), and several other Mc’s. It is just sad to see what the rap game has become ever since the deaths of Pac and Big. Lil Wayne labels himself as the “king”? YEA RIGHT! I caught this jawn. Its real heat. Only criticism is that the sequencing should be tweaked a bit. But, it’s a solid album as is. A lot of Nas hate is just a bunch of weird trolls that need to get over themselves. To make one point on behalf of the trolls, I bet there are b-sides and songs that didn’t make the album that are out of this world. We all know Nas is strange like that.

Another thing he could have spoke more about his life’s issues; tax problems, more in depth about the break up, etc. That would have been more interesting instead of the bragging/street sh&t raps. He’s been comparing this album to Here My Dear. If he’s thinking that, which I think was just something to say. But, if this is supposed to be comparable Mr. Gaye’s classic then less street sh&t more introspection would have been the icing on the cake.
All and all in my opinion this album is worth whatever you pay to get it (the max is $65.00 on his website).
