Hit-Boy has flexed his lyrical muscles once again on “The Tide,” a new collaboration with Nas that will land on his upcoming solo album, Surf or Drown — check it out below.
The formidable duo shared the track on Wednesday (March 22) with an accompanying music video directed by Third Eye Raz. In the video, Hit-Boy is seen enjoying his time out in New York City before Nas joins the fold to explore an art museum with his King’s Disease collaborator.
“I caught the bus in the cold, ‘fore I ever touched the icy watch, stood on my square, now these n-ggas want me stuck in a box/ Checkin’ the rear view in the Urus, had to circle the block, ’cause when you make it from the bottom, they gon’ come for your top, ” Hit-Boy kicks off his verse.
Nas later spits: “Vocal chords got insurance, not Superman or Invincible/ Family we ain’t see in decades, say he don’t give to you/ Good ol’ boy system, it’s still shittin’, per usual / Broadway lights, Nas is ghetto, like that’s the musical.”
Last Friday, Hit-Boy announced Surf or Drown would arrive on March 24 and will feature Curren$y, Spank Nitti James, Devin Morrison, James Fauntleroy and more. During an interview with Home Grown Media Group, Hit-Boy explained the album.
“I’m literally dropping a whole album next week with me rapping,” he said. “I got features on it. It’s produced by me and a couple of the homies did some little pieces, but it’s a real good body of just what I’m on right now … It’s gonna be like 11 joints.”
HipHopDX‘s Producer of 2022 also spoke about his determination to prove himself as an artist in his own right, beyond being a go-to beatmaker for some of Hip Hop’s biggest names.
“Some of the vibes on there I feel like people are gonna rock with. It’s not all soul chops and shit; it’s modern sounds, it’s everything. It’s a world to come into,” he explained.
“In different interviews and stuff I’ve been doing, I’ve been talking about how I went through some real stuff and I had to really figure out my place back in the game and just understand my personal power in this shit.”
Wasn’t feeling this one tbh
Obviously, you’re deaf
And you can obviously suck my d!ck
Nas got fat lol
Suffering from King’s Disease
Wtf???? No he’s not dumbass
Get off Nas dick bro, he’s not gonna f ck you
Hit-Boy is good but he’s not as nice as he thinks, and Nas has never had a strong vision for his soundscapes – as opposed to his writing – that would push HB further. this one is a bit underwhelming.
hope he has harder joints in store.
This song is dope end of story
Another wack one with Shit-Toy.
Hit boy please just make beats. Please…. U sound boring, underwhelming and forced. Your production is your voice. Don’t fuck up the four album magic with the wanting to be a bigger star…. This not good…
