Mustard has offered some advice to Drake on how to bounce back from his beef with Kendrick Lamar, which culminated in the Compton rapper declaring “Game Over” at the Super Bowl.
In an interview with Big Boy following Kendrick’s historic halftime show, the producer — who previously worked with Drizzy before scoring Dot’s Grammy-winning diss track “Not Like Us” — was asked: “What the hell does Drake do after all this?”
“I don’t know, man. I actually don’t think about what he could do,” he replied. “I just try to stay aligned with pure shit, just being pure and being on the right side of things — not doing no tactics and gimmicks.
“I’m not speaking at Drake or for him, but a lot of shit that’s going on — the tactics, the things that you do just to get attention. You don’t need to do that. Just make music, man. Make good music and you’ll be fine.”
Mustard, who made a cameo during Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance, is not the only artist to offer some words of wisdom to Drake.
Killer Mike previously offered some similar advice in an interview with GQ, saying: “I mean, you do what Hip Hop has always done. You take your L’s like you take your W’s, you dust yourself off, you get back to making dope music. That’s all.”
He added: “Rap is pugilism and poetry. You’re going to go through battles. I wouldn’t overpersonalize it. I’d just get back to satisfying whatever Drake fans are wanting.
“The best has taken some losses. Ice Cube handed my favorite group in the world [N.W.A] a loss, but that didn’t stop Eazy-E from discovering Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and making the biggest comeback ever. That didn’t stop Dr. Dre from making The Chronic, you know what I’m saying?”
Drake also received a pep talk from seasoned battler 50 Cent after his diss song exchange with Kendrick.
“I was telling him, it’s not him. I’m listening on the outskirts, it’s not you. Don’t let yourself think that for a second,” Fif revealed to Billboard last year. “On some real shit, I said, ‘They said you lost, okay. Well what did you lose?’
“What exactly did he lose if he got $300 something million on his last tour? You didn’t lose a motherfucking thing, man.”
Drake himself has yet to directly comment on Kendrick Lamar’s recent Super Bowl performance and Grammy wins, although he has made a number of defiant comments while on tour in Australia.
During a performance in Melbourne shortly after the Super Bowl, he tweaked the lyrics to “Knife Talk” to: “Beef is live, spoiler alert: I never died.”
Why was this guy at the superbowl? So they could scream “Mustarrrrrrdd”? Seemed like a gimmick to me?
