This Sunday, in honor of Rockstar Games‘ XBox Live event for their new Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the team has included emcee Murs [click to read] to participate in the online competition this Sunday November 16 from 7-9 pm est, after a 4-7 similar session with Rockstar designers and employees from their New York and San Diego divisions.
Speaking with HipHopDX this afternoon about the competition, the Warner Brothers star predicted, “I think I have a chance, man, I don’t want people count me out. I want to be taken seriously.“
As peers such as The Game, Bow Wow and Twista have embraced the gaming world, Murs proclaimed himself a gamer, but stated, “I haven’t had time to play many video games, but I’ve played my fair share. I’ve played the Midnight Club: [Los Angeles] Edition on PSP, so I’m ready.“
After citing the PSP as where he learned on the road, Murs says that his advantage is with the XBox console, from which he will compete Sunday. “I’m a champion at the XBox. But online gaming is pretty new to me. I don’t really play ’cause I always get by a 12 year-old with a foul mouth.“
Whether or not today’s youth will trash-talk the Living Legends member on Sunday, Murs, a lifelong Los Angeles native, championed the game’s realistic imagery and layout of the City of Angels. “It’s very authentic. For me, it’s as fun to watch as it is to play because being from L.A., I can appreciate that when I watch my friends play. When I’m playing, I’m focused on the cars and the maneuvering. When I watch the crew play, I can go, ‘Oh, that’s that!’ and ‘Oh, there’s Amoeba!’ And when I learned how to evade the police on it, it was good ’cause then you can go up Mulholland Drive and Laurel Canyon. I know better than maybe most people in how to lose the police.”
Besides competing in the event, the rapper has his Will.i.am-assisted “Lookin’ Fly” appearing on the game’s soundtrack. Having just released Murs For President [click to read], the rapper touched on the exposure he’ll receive from the placement. “You get a lot more kids listening to you, and knowing you. The [demographic] is wide too. It could be from ages 10 to 55 playing Midnight Club. They might not know what you look like, but they can go, ‘Oh, he made that one song that’s on Midnight Club!’ Once you hear on it on a video game, you’ll hear it a million times.“
Before stepping out, the rapper presently on tour spoke about another album this year, the pay-what-you-like release with Hurley of Sweet Lord [click to read], Murs‘ third collaborative album with 9th Wonder. Asked if the digital release will follow in retail, Murs revealed, “We have it on hard copy now on tour, and it’ll probably be in stores by the end of the year.”
Murs‘ gamer-tag for Sunday is “R0b Feature.” Rockstar designers also on hand include “RkstrSDDesign1,” “RkstrNYQALEAD1” and “Rockstarnyc01.” More information can be found [click here].
