MTV Bringing Back “Cribs” & “Unplugged”

Active participants of music culture who fall underneath the Generation Z umbrella probably don’t associate MTV with much outside of Teen Mom, Teen Wolf and any other programming that fits that reoccurring theme. However, change has been set in motion in wake of a pair of retrospective announcements from the long-running entertainment channel.

MTV Cribs and their famed acoustic concert series Unplugged have been revived, with all the expected updates and trimmings for the social media crowd. Originally airing in 2000, Cribs focused on the lavish living space of musicians, celebrities and high-profile figures alike, and the new retooled version will be a series exclusive to Snapchat, Variety reports.

The new edition of the home invasion show is expected to launch in June with network favorites Mac Miller, Austin Mahone and Travis Mills slated as the first guests. The series’ most famous episode undoubtedly goes to Redman, who flipped the script during his 2001 appearance and brought viewers inside of a ghetto fabolous New Jersey apartment complete with a porno DVD collection, malfunctioned doorbell and a shoebox stuffed with cash.

In contrast, a new weekly music show titled Wonderland will showcase artists in their live performance habitat. The program will profile three different acts and upcoming comedians in accordance with a partnership with Comedy Central. There also will an eight-episode order of a sex and relationship series named Pants Off, hosted by YouTube personality Laci Green on Snapchat.

To round out the revitalization of music on the platform is the MTV Unplugged comeback. The acclaimed live music segment was instrumental in immortalization of Nirvana and allowing Mariah Carey to conquer record stores but it also has long lineage in Hip Hop all the same. In 1991, LL Cool, alongside De La Soul and MC Lyte, became the first ever rap acts on the show and paved the way for Jay Z’s memorable post-Blueprint set in November 2001, which officially christened The Roots as Hip Hop’s go-to band.

According to MTV, Unplugged will also be rolled out later this year.
