Nothing has ever kept Suge Knight quiet, not even prison. So it really shouldn’t have been too surprising to hear him speak his mind at the West Coast Hip Hop Summit. And aside from his comments about women, he really didn’t say anything that surprised me. His comments at the Summit have created quite a buzz in the hip hop community in the past few days and Suge has certainly taken his fair share of heat. The most unfortunate part about all of this is that he did say some things that really should have gotten every one’s attention, but it wasn’t anything negative.
The part of Suge’s speech that was overlooked was the most important part. Suge spoke about how rapper’s should band together to form a union in order to help secure their futures by having things like health benefits and pensions. Hip hop is a billion dollar industry and it’s resources are not being taken care of. Suge raised some excellent points and it is really a shame that they have gotten overlooked. A lot of people have called Suge stupid because of his latest antics and are confused as to why he says these things. Suge Knight is a very smart man and he knows exactly what he is doing, there is a method to his madness. Death Row has not released a successful album since Makaveli about 6 years ago, yet no one has ever stopped talking about them. Most labels just fade away but Suge has made sure that we all remember the name.
