Missy Elliott Comments On Nicki Minaj vs. Lil’ Kim, Calls For More Respect Among Female Artists

Following the release of her two new singles, “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat” , Virginia rapper Missy Elliott has been making the rounds lately in the media and most recently appeared on an episode of MTV’s Rap Fix Live yesterday (September 19). Missy addressed a number of topics during her interview with Sway including Aaliyah, creating an all-female music tour, and her stance on the past beef between rappers Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim.

While speaking on Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim, Missy revealed that what it all boils down to is respect. The rapper went on to state that two artists can not like one another, but should still remain respectful.

“I mean that situation I felt divided us. I’ve never met Nicki, like I said she’s out there hustling, you can’t be mad at that. Lil’ Kim is my sister. I’ve known her for years and I never turn my back on her, but there’s enough room for everybody,” Missy explained. “I wanna see everybody, everybody, get it. You know what I’m saying? I just love to see women just have their own. And you watch the guys do it all the time…The simplest word that I can say is respect. You don’t have to like somebody, respect. That’s it.”

Prior to speaking on respect among artists, Missy answered a viewer question in regards to there not being any shows featuring solely female rappers and shared that she’s been wanting to do something similar for quite some time now.

“I have been wanting to do that for some years and so it’s funny that she said that,” the rapper revealed. “Listen, if we can get it done I’ll open up. I don’t care. Like I’ll go on at 6:30. I would love to see that. I would think it would be epic, totally. I don’t care who it is, let’s just rock and roll. It’s enough for everybody.”

During her interview on Rap Fix Live, Missy also offered up the names of the artists she’d love to work with and among them were both Andree 3000 and Lauryn Hill.

    1. one thing ive always loved about missy outside of music is that shes always been so fuckin humble. Always. Shes never been over confident or cocky, just always laid back.

    2. For real Missy looking good, damn i wish she be on my lap looking thick and can spit a freestyle, mmmmmm rubs my nips and sausage :-).

    3. Look I’m in prison right now, but I had to give my opinion on this.

An all women MC tour? That sh t will not make a profit. Nicki Minaj can’t even sell out large stadiums and all these othe washed up lay MC’s couldn’t sell out a House of Blues. I’m sorry.

BTW, I admit that I did kill Nicole but Ron killed himself.

See ya when I get out

    4. All female MC tour wouldn’t be bad, but she gotta bring real female MC’s. Won’t be surprised if she didn’t know who Rapsody, Jean Grae, or Nitty Scott was. She need to find out. Forget about these clown-whores.

    5. It’s funny really, I’ve never been a huge fan of Missy, but she did leave a void when it comes to decent radio/club tracks. Her and Timbo will get you on the dancefloor without it being some degrading dumb shit. Hip-hop needs a bit of fun sometimes

    6. Love ya Missy! Need more of ur enery in he game. U have been missed during ur hiatus! 🙂 I sure u got that firah for us!
