Mike WiLL Made It Says He’s Taken Over Music, Discusses “23” Video

Today (September 24), Mike WiLL Made It released the video for “23,” a song and clip that features Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. Mike WiLL Made It spoke with HipHopDX about the treatment for the music video.

“It’s like a school setting,” Mike WiLL Made It said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “It’s like a pep-rally, a school scene…The video is like, I go in, I take over the school, trick the principal and start playing ’23’ over the intercom. The whole school is turnt up. Everybody just starts going ham.”

Mike WiLL compared the video’s storyline to his rise in the music industry.

“It’s kind of how I came into the game,” WiLL said. “I came in, this new dude, that kind of just took over the game and brought everybody together and ended up being kind of the cool kid in the game. It’s the same shit with that.”

Mike WiLL Made It said he was pleased with the turnout at the music video, which includes a cameo from Birdman.

The video for “23,” which can be streamed on HipHopDX’s video section, can also be seen below.

Earlier this year, Mike WiLL defended Miley Cyrus’ raps, which can be heard on the song.

“I look at her like how I do music,” Mike WiLL Made It said in an interview with Complex. “She is a fan of all music, just like I am. A lot of times, older people don’t get the new generation. The new generation will listen to a Pop song, a hard-ass hood song, and come back and listen to another Pop song. ‘23‘ is a representation of that and for those people. But, for the people that are stuck in only the Hip Hop box or only the Pop box, that song wasn’t for them. Or it’s there to break them out of their box. The fact that anybody would say anything to her about rapping, the only reason they would say that is because she’s White. And I never knew you had to be Black, White, Asian, or whatever to rap. I thought you had to just be talented. With rapping, that’s just another form of expressing your music. Whether you’re going to rap, you’re going to sing, it’s whatever you want. She still sings on that song, so it’s just another way to express it. It’s just a good song. As long as it’s good, nothing matters. She does her thing. As far as rapping goes, as long as you are telling the truth and you have a good flow, then you win.”

    1. Forget the haters Mike! I applaud you for your work with Miley! Hip-hop is about bringing people together. For far too long White women who love the culture have been unfairly ridiculed by people of color. Their motives have questioned (i.e., are you just after Black men?). White women should feel comfortable showing their skills on the mic and turntables or what have you. I hope that you continue your work with Miley and other talented artists, regardless of their race or gender.
