Mike D of Beastie Boys Becomes Wine Critic

Sadat X isn’t the only emcee that has reinvented himself as a wine aficionado. Now, Mike D of the legendary Beastie Boys has become a professional wine critic.

According to TheBoombox.com, Mike D now writes a blog for wine aficionado James Suckling’s website. In his first post this past Monday, Mike D explained how he got into the wine business.

“We are putting the finishing touches on a new album [The Hot Sauce Committee: Pt. 2],” he said. “Fortunately, we have been working closely with our esteemed colleague Mr. Zdar, so we have been sticking to his French work ethic of strong coffee and lengthy sit-down lunches.”

In his first post for the site, Mike D also reviewed his first wine –  a 2006 bottle of red wine from Momofuku Ssam Bar.

“The red Burgundy was really good actually, especially when you don’t expect much out of a restaurant half bottle,” he wrote. “I can’t say the spicy cuisine did the wine any favors. But still, after properly cleansing the palate, this was surprisingly ready to rock — ripe fruits, earthy notes, even a little bit of refined funk. Elegant and restrained with well-balanced tension. 93 points.”

Fans wanting more from the Beastie Boys won’t have to wait too long for the next LP. Their eighth studio The Hot Sauce Committee: Pt. 2 is expected to hit stores this spring.

    1. HipHop is getting older and wiser. Tastes getting refined. In 20 years Hip-Hoppers will be the “old jazz heads”.

    2. In related news, Gucci Mane is forging a career as a semen taster. His first taste was courtesy of a dude he met in the toilet:
“The jizz was thick, warm and creamy at first, with a bitter and salty after-taste.”
