Metro Boomin has paid tribute to his late mother, Leslie Wayne, who was shot and killed two years ago.

Taking to his Instagram on Monday (June 3), the super-producer shared two photos — one from his older years, and one from his younger years — of himself with Wayne.

“Today makes 2 years since Your Physical being has left us but I get on my knees and pray every morning that Your Spirit fills and surrounds my brothers and sisters and I more and more each day,” he wrote in the caption. “I Love and miss You more than could ever be explained or comprehended.”

Metro Boomin also limited the comments on the post to avoid trolls and other social media predators.

On June 3, 2022, Leslie Wayne was shot and killed by her husband, who then turned the gun on himself. Wayne’s body was discovered by law enforcement in an area outside of Atlanta.

In a 2016 profile for The FADER, Metro Boomin recalled his mother driving him 17 hours from their home in St. Louis to Atlanta to meet OJ Da Juiceman who, in turn, helped him grow as a producer.

Mother and son would continue to make the 17-hour drives nearly every weekend, and Metro’s continued work as a producer was contingent on him keeping his grades up. The plan paid off, enough for him to not only attend Morehouse College briefly but also continue the momentum from hit records such as Future’s“Karate Chop” and working with Gucci Mane.

One year later, the Atlanta producer took to Instagram with a post dedicated to his mother. In his post, Metro explained how difficult it is to celebrate his latest win with such a heavy weight on his heart.

“Mom I miss you so much I can’t do nothing but sit here and cry right now,” Metro wrote. “You taught me to see the blessings no matter the circumstances and I feel so blessed right now but can’t help to feel hurt because this is the moment we have always talked about and patiently waited and prayed for. It hurts not getting your texts about all your favorite songs or how good you think I look in all the videos and pictures.

“You were always the proudest of all your children and have always been my #1 supporter with everything in life. Even when I was 13 sneaking staying up late on school nights to make beats and then when I would fake sleep you would just act like you didn’t know I was up.

He continued: “I miss your typos I miss you asking for the links to the albums and merch so you could send them out to everyone you know telling me no one could even talk to you without supporting your babies.

“I miss you checking me and putting me back on track if I ever went too far left. I Love You for eternity and can’t wait until I can finally be with you again. I feel so blessed right now but the moment is still so bittersweet #MyQueen #IWishYouWereHere.”
