Method Man has explained why he’s not performing on Wu-Tang Clan’s N.Y. State of Mind Tour alongside Nas and Busta Rhymes.
With some fans disappointed he isn’t on the lineup for the group’s North American tour, the New York rapper recently took to Instagram Live to give his reasons for why he couldn’t be on the road.
“I’ma clear this shit up once and for all,” he said. “I’ma say this one last time. One of the nicest muthafuckas in the world, but I am not a pushover. I have sacrificed so much over the years to satisfy the fans, and I’m pretty sure that’s vice versa and that’s why I love y’all – that’s why I don’t hesitate to go all-out for y’all.
“But to be dissatisfied or to even blame me for your experience is unfair. Very fucking unfair. My brothers are super duper talented, with or without me. And I know a lot of people, or a few people, have paid their money to see me perform, but that bill said Wu-Tang Clan.”
He added: “And you know, these things happen and dudes do have to feed their families. Albums don’t sell the way they used to, I’m pretty sure you guys know that. So in order to preserve my lifestyle and to feed my family, I had to have alternative means of doing that. And I’m glad to say at 50 years old, I have options. Not everybody can say that. Everyone cannot say that they have options.”

Method Man went on to say if it wasn’t for him filming an upcoming movie, he would have loved to join the rest of Wu-Tang Clan on tour.
“I fucking love Wu-Tang, wish I could have been on that tour with them,” he admitted. “The booking came at a bad time – I was already booked to do a movie. Only reason why I’m coming back saying this is because of my love for my fans, okay. The real fans. Not the ones that’d jump in your DMs and curse you the fuck out all call you all kinds of bitches.”
He continued: “‘Cause like I said, I’m a very nice guy but I am not a pushover, and I would hate to smack the shit out of one of my fans, male or female, it goes both ways, please believe that. And I will not let anyone disrespect me. I’m a father, a grandfather, a husband, a brother. I have family and I have feelings on top of that.
“And I refuse to let anybody, I don’t care if you got one fucking follower muthafucka, you don’t mean shit to me. If you can bring smoke then you can take smoke, period. Dish shit out, you can take it.”
The N.Y. State of Mind Tour kicked off in St. Louis, Missouri last week. Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav made a surprise appearance during Nas’ set in Clarkston, Michigan over the weekend.
The tour heads to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on Wednesday (September 7), with shows in Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Oakland, Los Angeles and other cities also on the horizon.
Tell Em Mr Meth
Even back in the day it would always be one or two dudes missing on these Wu shows. This is nothing new. It’s hard to get 9 dudes on the same page for a 10 k rap show
Right, same thing goes with other groups I remember back in the late 90s or early 00s bone thugs performed in my hometown of Montgomery Alabama and it was only 3 members of the group: Krayzie, Layzie and Wish Bizzy and Flesh were missing so it’s typical it’s nothing new not every member of a group can b on stage together
Bone is horrible though. We’re talking about real hip hop, not some commercial ass wack creators of mumble rap.
You on crack mumble is now if you can’t understand how good bone is maybe there not your cup of tea but to disrespect them and there music and accomplishments you got jokes?you can write a rap take it put it on a beat record it make it a single you will never ever ever ever beat any of bone’s hits so think before you look stupid guy.
Really? he was there when I went friday.
No he wasn’t….
Translation: For Cappadonna and U-God, that’s a payday. For Mef that’s a paycut. It don’t make financial sense for him to tour with them. Having said that as a fan it’s still disappointing.
I’ll take the smoke
Tell’em meth. I get it and I understand you got to feed your family. It would have been nice to see you at the show but it’s all gravy. Keep your head up meth and do you for you and yours. Much love brotha. I’m always a true fan of you and wu-tang from back in da early 90s.
Ive seen Wu live 3 times and Meth only showed up to one of the shows. Another time Gza wasnt there. Its just how the Wu works. All three shows was great!!
The thing I noticed though is that if someone is missing, someone else will work extra hard. You got dudes like Rza that are always hype. But one of the shows I saw Raekwon was going off all night, and he is usually more laid back. Its fun to see how they substitute the energy for each other.
Wu-Tang is one of the few rap groups that actually gives effort on stage, remembers their lyrics, hold the mic properly, interact with fans, and give the fans a real show. If you’re unsatisfied with their shows, Meth or no Meth, then you must be unaware of how horrible most rap shows are. Most rap shows are 10 guys on stage acting tough, smokin and taking pictures of themselves, forgetting their own lyrics, cupping the mic and blaming the sound man for it.
The Hell with the Haters Keep doing you Meth
