Currently, investigators are exploring the possibility that a blown tire was the cause of the crash. National Transportation Safety Board spokeswoman Debbie Hersman reported that investigators listening to the jet’s cockpit voice recorder heard a
sound “consistent with a tire blowout.

The Associated Press also reported that, according to a conversation on the voice recorder recovered from the wreckage, the pilot and co-pilot said that they heard a tire burst. “The crew attempted to reject the takeoff but was unable to stop the aircraft before it departed the runway,” said Hersman.
