Billboard broke the news Monday morning (July 11) that Meek Mill and Roc Nation Management had split. With opinions flying across social media, Meek took to Twitter hours later to provide some context and clarity to his relationship with Roc Nation.
The Philly native confirmed the reports and explained he’s still on great terms with JAY-Z and the split with Roc Nation was about him growing as an artist independently on the management side.
“I’m personally handling my own business so I can take risk and grow ..we came to that agreement together,” he wrote. “I have a label deal with roc for my artist and I got reform super tied with them and many other investments wit jigga.”
He went on to speak about his “What’s Free” collaborator being part of the team that fought for his freedom in 2017. Meek and Jay have since joined forces to launch the Reform Alliance to help make progress on prison reform and are business partners in companies such as Mitchell & Ness.
“And roc nation is my family don’t mix my post aimed at Atlantic mixed up with roc or MMG,” he continued. “They ain’t stop nothing I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life b4 And put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good.”
Meek’s beef seems to be with Atlantic Records, who he claims “starved” him out of millions of dollars and kept a grip on his creative freedom while limiting when he could release music.
“I been signed to Atlantic/MMG since 2014 it used to be Warner only made 11m on records out of like a 100m,” he wrote. “I only could drop every 9 months something a lawyer never explained to me and they removed me from all festivals also.”
Meek Mill’s last album arrived in 2021 with Expensive Pain, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 95,000 total album-equivalent units sold in the first week. He is yet to drop a new single in 2022.
His statements are weak af. The fact he is trying to explain his situation makes him look feeble. You dont see Jay trying to explain himself whenever he gains a little negitive publicity.
Jay was born in 69 Meek was born in 87 – 2 totally different eras. When social media engagement became a priority Jay was already up 500 m’s so it’s easy to fall back.
Bro you sound like a real hater!! That man can explain what tf he wants to explain. Who are you to say he can’t. Then you jumped on Jay’s jock. Stop clout chasing! Let Meek do him.
