MC Ren made a series of social media posts today (June 10) regarding the promotion of Straight Outta Compton, the forthcoming film on N.W.A that is due in theaters August 14.
“Man fuck these bitches at universal pictures leaving me out the movie trailers tryin to rewrite history,” MC Ren writes on Twitter.
MC Ren, who with Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella was a member of N.W.A, is not depicted in the trailers.
The trailers focus on Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube. The trailers also feature Ruthless Records executive and N.W.A manger Jerry Heller, but do not focus on either MC Ren or DJ Yella.
DJ Yella produced N.W.A’s material with Dr. Dre.
MC Ren was one of N.W.A’s main rappers and has been name-dropped in songs by several rappers, including OutKast on “Aquemini.”He also wrote some of Eazy-E’s lyrics.
“When you have bitches work on a hip hop film that don’t know shit about hip hop this is what happens. How the hell u leave me out after all,” MC Ren writes, “The work I put into them records. It’s disrespectful to me, my family and most of all my FANS.”

I was disappointed to hear that Ren was not a part of this movie. MC Ren and Ice Cube were the best that NWA had to offer when it came to lyrics and delivery. I remember when I saw Panic Zone at my corner store in Hawthorne-Had to have it. If they did not offer MC Ren and Yella to give their input, how do they have a NWA movie? I am not buying it. Ren and Yella should have been a part of the production. I loved NWA as a child, but I am waiting for this one to come on netflix.

One of the best parts of nwa was when ren and dre rapped at the same time.it is a simple concept but it comes out so strong me and my partners have used this style ever scince and when we come out at the live shows with the songs where 2,3 sometimes 4 even 5 of us all rappin at the same time is when the crowd goes nuts. Its overpiwering. Always wanted to hear a just ren and dre album.
When I pay my hard earned to see this biopic I’m gonna EXPECT to see the WHOLE STORY!

What reeaaalllllyyy was going down within the group during their time as a group from all the sides, not just a few. Like it or not but most of the time Cube, Dre, and Eazy were the main focuses of the group mainly because of the beefs and Dre always being known as the sound behind the group. Ren was an important part of the group’s history, but they’re not necessarily telling that story, as I think Hollywood would find that boring. They’re focusing on the ones who blew up out of it individually and the controversies that broke it up.

This movie is the best thing for Ren’s career. Whether he’s in the trailer or not he’s getting more focus on his career as it stands right now then he ever would putting out sub par music. Between the “Life Sentence” recordings and “Shock Of The Hour” Ren went to hell as a rapper. Fell right off with the occasional ok song on albums littered with trash. Enjoy the pub your getting from the movie and pray Cube, Dre and Yella want to record another NWA song or album.

MC Ren was an important part of the group and a major contributor. So many people swayed by the media and place value on who is currently famous. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre produced the film so of course they are going to make themselves the focal points. NWA is made up of 5 members. 2 should get credit for being semi-official members Arabian Prince as a founder and writer of a couple of songs. And the D.O.C. as a producer and co-writer for NWA. My opinion the D.O.C. should be an official member even if he lost his voice and can’t do vocals anymore. But this bad mouthing MC Ren is disrespectful and ignorant.
Ren is to NWA as Joe Walsh was to the Eagles. Technically superior compared with others in the group (Ren was the best pure rapper in the group), but also overshadowed by more commercial successful members.
