Master P signed Snoop Dogg to his No Limit Records in 1998 while Death Row Records, run by Suge Knight, was being investigated for violence. The New Orleans rapper says that he gave Snoop Dogg a better life and did not have issues with Knight.
“We don’t have repercussions over here,” he says to The Breakfast Club. “We just do what we do. I feel like I saved Snoop’s life. He went through some things. I feel like he was the best talent that I knew in the world. Snoop Dogg, I was always a fan of him, but when I talked to him, he wasn’t in a good place. Suge was about to sign him over to some other label. I’m like, ‘Man, my money don’t spend?’ Let me get that.”
Master P continues by saying that when he moved to Los Angeles, Knight reached out to him to try and assert his dominance in the area.
“When I first got to LA, and I got a call from Suge probably everybody get that call,” he says, “I’m like, ‘Dog, you do better talking to me in person.’ He’s like, ‘Man, LA isn’t big enough for all of us.’ Puffy was out a bunch a people. I was like, ‘Man, I just bought a house. I ain’t going nowhere. When you moving?'”
He also gives further details about his forthcoming biopic Ice Cream Man: King of the South. He says the signing of Snoop Dogg will be depicted. The movie has a budget of $10 million and he is trying to get Tyler Perry to direct the film.
Gotta Agree. Snoop was dope at death row and no limit. Fell off once he left no limit and worked with pop crap like Drop it like its hot.
Most people would say that Snoop started sucking ass when he moved to a shit label like No Limit. By most people, I mean smart people.
dude u r dumb bro no limit still is the best fuck what you think brz
I lost it when they said they wanted that cornball f***stain Tyler Perry to direct the film.
Snoop fell off after No Limit. Think back to The Chronic and Doggystyle, he had one of the best flows out. He used to make sense in his raps and was well deserving of superstardom. Now i cant listen to his freestyle raps. He stopped writing and its obvious because he spits gibberish but makes sure that it rhymes. Snoop is shitting on rap in a bad way. Big ups to P tho (terrible rapper since 2000). I always respected his hustle. The guy had 500 mil before anyone dreamed of it and was doing movies back when rappers barely could get a deal. Tyler Perry is from Louisiana and if you watch the interview his reasoning for wanting to include Tyler makes sense. He knows Louisiana culture and could display it best as a director.
“Blue Carpet Treatment” is a GREAT album. Thank you, HustlinSince85.
for once I actually agree with u justine. Blue Carpet treatment was dope.
Do you notice that no matter who the rapper is, be it Snoop, Nas, Jay-Z, any rapper you can think of, people always say their early stuff was dope and their new stuff sucks. I think what happens is just that people OUTGROW rap music. When you’re young, you’re impressed by shit that doesn’t impress you any more when you’re 25-30.
I think it has more to do with struggle. Struggle inspires great music. When the artist is making millions and no longer struggling they lose inspiration. Then it end up being all about cars and money which most of us can’t relate to.
it could be that. It could also be outgrowing your hood. Which kept you relevant in the first place with topics to rap about. You are more hungry when entering the game. More raw. But once success hits you, its like, I made it. The fire inside stops burning.. you accomplish what you were out to get. MOney and respect. Now you have those special few that strives to be the best, Dre,Puffy, Jay, Fifty, etc to name a few. they seen the light outside of what made them. Music. A way to make the money the right way.. you can always tell who’s the real hustler in the game. they never stop hustling. But you listen to the first and second albums of most Artists, and groups. That shit is classic. after that.. ummm they slack off ..
The same goes for artists in any genre. People love artists when they’re fresh on the scene and hungry. They all have a better story to tell
Stupid Title. How about: No Limit!
Snoop still has one thing over most mainstream guys. He can really rock a live show. Most mainstream artist are absolute garbage live. Snoop can hang with the best in the biz.
realest comment ive seen in awhile. doesnt get enough appreciation. most these new guys cant do a real show that has any quality or entertainment value, they just bump their song and jump around.
Easy to say that now that Suge is in jail
He’s been telling the same story for years newcomer.
he says that to him a log time a go why you think he says we need to meet up master p. is a bout the only real rapper that well tell you to your face no limit forever
Sugar pulled stunts on weak nggas and is now broke. P is that True, who turned street knowledge to real profit.
Suge night bully days is over.
Much Respect for the OG Master P
Tyler Perry? Why?
P did it his way and real people know that, not people hollering I’m about that life. Real street dude don’t have to sound tough and disrespect people, you already know
He did more than pistol whip Pimp C. He had him in the trunk and was about to make a body until he had a talk with J Prince.
Master P got Snoop to say “Top Dollar with the Gold Flea Colla, Dippin in my Blue Impala, D .. . P … G – Don’t you DARE forget that fuckin DOPENESS
